BLOOMSDALE ELEMENTARY
3-5 PE LESSONS
WEEK THREE
EQUIPMENT: Both Days: Take-a-chance cards, jump ropes, music, cones, bean bags, hoops,
mats, basket, dodge balls-nerf.
OBJECTIVE: Students will deme proficiency in the application of movement knowledge and social
skills in a variety of low-organized and lead up games.
Students will demo competence in a variety of fundamental skills and a few selected
sport skills.
Students will cooperate effectively with partners and small groups to accomplish an
assigned task or achieve a goal.
INITIAL ACTIVITY:
Listening circle---find a home.
A student will select a Take-a-Chance card and then lead the class.
Continue until the class is sufficiently warmed up.
FITNESS
ACTIVITY
Limber and loosen (Why warm up?? Prevents injuries, improves range of motion)
(Turn on music)
Piano Keys—hands palms down—high knees to your hands.
Head Nods and Shakes
Shoulder shrugs and rolls
Monkey Dance---elbow to opposite knee (several times)
Twisters
Arm circles—forward and back, big and small
Side stretches
Hop on both feet back and forth—ski slalom
Pull knees up to chest.
Against the wall calf-stretch.
MOVEMENT
ACTIVITY Listening circle, find a home, continue music.
Jump low, Jump high, Jump higher---Tuck jump five times.
Hop four times on the right foot, then left, then three each, two each, one each.
Hop forward four times, hop backward four time. To the left, to the Right. Both feet.
Hop holding one of your feet in front, behind, to the side. Switch feet.
PLAY
GYMNASTICS (2nd day of the week)
Break out the mats. Groups of three.
Tri-pod balance—hands and head. Fingers spread—pointing forward.
Rest your knees on your elbows. Hold for three seconds.
Kick up handstand---Spotters hold your ankles and keep you balanced if needed.
GAMES SKILLS
Listening circle.
Toss means to throw underhand---toss bean bag or puff ball up and catch it five times.
Toss it with one hand and catch it with the same hand. Switch hands.
Toss bean bag, clap one time, then catch it.
Toss bean bag, clap two times then catch it.
Toss to a partner back and forth---ten times—catch it one handed.
Shuttle Pass relay—four people per team. Two behind each line
facing your own teammate, toss the bean bag then follow your throw to the end of
the other line quickly. First team to catch 25 in a row wins.
SPECIAL GAMES (most likely second day)
Four teams line up at end line.
Toss the bean bags into the hoop contest between the four teams.
The team that gets all of the bean bags into the hoop first wins.
If you miss, you have to run and get your bean bag and go to end of line.
Relay race with bean bag---NO ONE touches the bean bag with their hands or mouth.
When everyone has gone, your team then has to toss bean bag into the basket to win.
If more time, Lane dodge ball. Two games going at once. Two nerfs in each game.
