Pre-AP Course: This class is designed to begin preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) level courses.

Grading Policy:

Daily Work (35%)

Tests, Quizzes, and Projects (45%)

Semester Test (20%)

Daily Work: Homework is given most nights.

·  Grading methods: teacher and/or student grading, completion grades, or accuracy grades.

·  Students must SHOW WORK (as modeled in class to receive credit).

·  Incomplete homework will result in an incomplete grade or a zero.

·  Late assignments will only be accepted if students get an “extension” by going to tutoring for a least 15 minutes. Late assignments are not accepted after that specific unit test.

·  No extensions are allowed for Test Reviews.

Tests: Exams are worth 100 points. There are no retakes. If a student is absent the day of a quiz or test, it is their responsibility to schedule a time with me to make it up.

Daily Supplies:

·  *Notebook (#1 priority!) - I will be providing all of my students their first notebook. It will be the responsibility of the student to replace the notebook as it becomes full.

·  Student ID (must be worn at all times J)

·  A writing utensil of course (preferably a pencil)

·  Assignment (must be done in pencil or black/blue ink – any other color will result in a zero)

·  Loose leaf paper

·  Agenda

·  Highlighter

*Geometry Notebook:

·  Each page is to be numbered and a table of contents is to be at the front (we will discuss the set-up in class).

·  Notebooks are due on the day of the chapter/unit test for a daily grade. If the Table of Contents is not filled out it will result in a 50% or less.

·  This is the EASIEST GRADE.

Calculator - A classroom set of calculators will be provided to all students when necessary. It is beneficial for a student to purchase his/her own to use at school and at home. We will be using the TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator.

Textbooks (not needed every day) - Students are expected to take good care of these textbooks since they are school property. I will let students know when they need to bring their textbook in class.

Classroom Rules:

·  Be Prompt

·  Work Hard

Classroom Daily Procedures

When students enter my classroom I expect students to:

·  Have wonderful behavior and positive comments.

·  Have ID around neck so it can be seen.

·  Find YOUR assigned seat before the bell rings.

·  Read the board for instruction.

·  I dismiss you, not the bell.

Hall Passes: Personal business should be done during the passing periods. If a student has a medical exception, please let me know.

Academic Integrity: I expect each and every one of my students to have integrity when it comes to their academic work. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in a zero. I expect all students to be honest when grading their own work.

Absent Procedures:

Students are responsible for getting their notes and assignments on days where they are absent. All notes and assignments will be posted online. If you do not have Internet access, get your notes from a friend, use the library computers, or come talk to me. Always check the “absent crate” or assignment board for your absent work/assignments.

Parent/Student Portal:

Please check the Parent/Student Portal to keep up with grades and attendance.

Parent/Guardian Contact:

Since few private phones are at the school, I will more than likely communicate by email.

Technology:

I will be utilizing technology to post notes, assignments, and to send reminders/HW. I will post the information on my website:

To my awesome students,

Due to the nature of this advanced course, it is imperative that you “keep up”. Your success in Pre-AP Geometry depends on your willingness to be challenged, make mistakes, work with others, and work hard. I expect your best effort each and every day. You must complete your work, turn it in on time, and PLEASE ask questions when you do not understand. Communication is very important during the process of learning mathematics.

I believe in you! – Mrs. Lohn
