Mrs. Folley’s Classroom Policies & Procedures

(In other words, ways to succeed!)

1.  Entering the Classroom

Pull out your notebook and agenda book. Record any homework from the board.

Begin Introduction Activity. If you do not begin the activity I will assume you are “absent” and you will be marked as so.

2.  Calendar/Agenda Book

Look at the agenda on the board every day. Always record assignments.

Do not ask “What are we doing today?” until you have looked at the Daily Agenda

3.  Introduction Activity

These exercises will be included in the daily agenda and should be completed the first five to seven minutes of class each day. You will have an introduction sheet for each week. Do not turn exercises in until Friday. Please check the board/projector for the Introduction Activity. You may begin as soon as you have reviewed the daily agenda and recorded it.

4.  Briefing

After completing the Introduction Activity we will discuss it briefly as well as assignments and the daily agenda.

5.  Agenda Book

This must be filled out on a daily basis. Record the assignments. If you are absent, get the assignment from another student or check the website. It will be updated daily.

6.  Testing

On test days come in. You will be given FIVE minutes to review and at that point, all supplies need to be put away. Tests are worked on independently unless told differently. Always put your name on the test!

7.  Turning in Assignments/Tests

Your full name should be on ALL assignments and tests. All assignments should include the following information: First and Last Name, Date, and Period Put assignments in appropriate basket on the cart. Please do not put assignments in binder.

8.  Grading

Students should check their grades online at least two times a week. Grades will only be discussed before or after class and at the teacher’s discretion. Students receiving a C- or below should schedule an appointment with teacher to get extra help.

9.  Progress Reports

You should know your grade at all times since it is updated regularly on PowerSchool. I will print progress reports for students who are absent for more than three days, have a D or lower, or is requested by parents.

10.  Passes

Passes will be given for the bathroom and the nurse. They will be given only after the first fifteen minutes of class. If I am teaching at the front, you must wait to get a pass, unless it is a SEVERE EMERGENCY! You cannot get a pass if you are disruptive or disrespectful in class. You only get 2 BATHROOM passes per 9 weeks. If you save them, they are worth extra credit points at the end.

11.  Makeup Work

Work will only be given for excused absences, you have the total number of days absent PLUS 2 to get the work back in without being deducted points. Talk with me if you have extenuating circumstances.

12.  Food and Drinks

There are no food and drinks permitted in the LAB AREA. I will let you know if there are days when you can bring in “MOVIE FOOD” for certain videos or other activities.

13.  Cell Phones & iPods

They need to be turned off and put away during class time. I may say you can use them for certain class activities. If they are out without my permission, it will be taken until the end of the period or possibly the end of the day depending on how often it occurs.

14.  Manners

Important words to use in class: “Please” and “Thank you.” “You’re Welcome.” “May I.” “Excuse me.” “Mr.” or “Mrs.”

15.  Tardy

Come in and pull out your notebook. Put the pass on the my desk. Seat yourself and review the calendar and write down the Introduction Activity to complete later for homework or when specified by me.

16.  Class Participation

Raise your hand to speak and wait to be called on. Only questions relevant to class or lecture material will be addressed. Other issues will be addressed after class.

17.  End of Class

Class ends when I dismiss you, not when the bell rings. You may not pack up material until I say it is ok. If students begin packing up before the bell, you will have to stay after the bell for the time you took from me. I will usually allow you to pack up with a minute to spare as long as I see everyone is seated and all areas are clean.

18.  Supplies

You must bring your binder and writing utensils as well as a calculator each day. You will not be given a pass to go to your locker. There will be random binder checks at my discretion so keep it organized. Remember you need the following sections: notes, assignments, handouts, tests & quizzes, and labs

19.  Absences

You can check the class website at anytime to see what you have missed. The day you return, ask a classmate for his or her daily agenda. This will tell you what we did in class the days you were out. Continue to locate a student who has a daily agenda completed. If you need a copy of a worksheet from the teacher, please raise your hand and make your request during the Introduction Activity or wait until the last five minutes of class. Any other requests made regarding absences will take place outside class time or at the teacher’s discretion. Students who are absent (unless with an excused absence form) may not make up graded work. Again, you have the number of days absent PLUS 2 to make up work.

20.  Working in Groups

I will usually assign groups. Sometimes you may choose or we will have a random system. Students are not allowed to change groups. I hold the right to remove a member of a group and assign individual work. Please inform the teacher, IN PRIVATE, if a group member is not contributing.

21.  Notebooks

Please keep notebooks clean and organized. Notebooks will be checked periodically for completeness. Points may be deducted from grade for lack of organization. Items to include in notebook: notes, assignments, handouts, tests & quizzes, and labs

22.  Assistance

Please raise hand when you need assistance. If teacher is busy or occupied, please wait patiently until the teacher can offer assistance.

23.  Excused Absence Forms

Place on my desks by the end of the introduction activity. They will be given back by the end of class.

24.  Grade Checks or Grade Forms

Give to me by the end of the introduction activity. They will be given back by the end of class.

25.  Class website: http://wsscience.wikispaces.com/folley

I will keep a website up to date with all assignments. Some assignments will be posted as electronic copies. I will also post certain notes and other information I think is important to the site.

26.  Loss of Handouts

If you lose a worksheet or handout, I will not give you a new copy. If it is an electronic copy, you may print a new one yourself from the class website. If there is no electronic copy, you must copy down the main parts of the worksheet from another student onto notebook paper and then complete the assignment.

27.  Contacting me

You can email me at anytime at I check email often throughout the day. Parents can anytime as well. Please remember PowerSchool is always available for you and your parents.

28.  Handing In Assignments

All assignments need to have your full name, the date, and period. Assignments to be graded need to be placed in the in box on the cart as you enter the classroom. After the introduction activity, assignments will be considered late.

29.  Late work: you will lose 10% off that assignment for each day it is late. After that, it’s a zero. Some assignments will just be walked around and looked at. If I have told you so, pull them out and place them on your desk and I will check them as you complete the Introduction activity. Saying you “lost” the worksheet will not be an excuse and you can follow the procedure for losing handouts. Until you get a new handout or copy from another student, you will still be marked as late.

30.  Getting out of your Seat

Students may get out of their seat to get a tissue, sharpen pencils or do assignment related work WITHOUT asking. You may not get up to speak with friends.

31.  Announcements

No talking during announcements. Points will be taken from your grade if you have to be reminded more than once.

32.  Fire Drill

Please see Fire Drill procedure posted in the room. Students must leave and return as a class.

33.  Assembly/Early Release Day

Normal Class procedures are enforced.

34.  Visitors in the Class

35.  Someone at the Door

36.  Finishing Early

Ask me if there is something else you can do after completing class assignments early. Additional assignments may sometimes be completed for extra credit. Students are not allowed to sit and do nothing in class. You must be working until the end of class.
