Dear Band Parents:
This Clevelander is super-pumped about upcoming 23-degree lows…snow can’t be far behind!
We are trying to get in the winter mood with our Winter Concert tunes!! You should be hearing some new music.
Speaking of concerts…save the date, but only for your child’s school:
· Matula E.S. January 3, 2018 6:30 p.m. at Matula Elementary
· Parks E.S. January 10, 2018 6:30 p.m. at Lackey High
· Mitchell E.S. January 11, 2018 6:30 p.m. at Somers Middle
· Barnhart E.S. January 18, 2018 6:30 p.m. at Barnhart Elementary
Concert dress is white shirt, black pants/shoes/socks. Please refrain from wearing t-shirts, sneakers, sweatpants, or jeans.
Synergy…my arch-nemesis this year. So, your children’s grades, if they have submitted extra credit, are all screwy. Averages are going from 75% to 213% with an addition of 10 bonus points. I had planned to send home my handwritten Band report cards with your child’s regular report cards, but since the averages aren’t fixed, I’m going to hold off until the program glitches are corrected. I’ll keep you posted on all of that, and hopefully will be able to report success next week!
This week in class, we learned two new notes, increasing our total notes to 7. We began working on lines 30 and 36 (new stuff), plus our next test material on lines 33 and 38. We also worked on several concert tunes (ask your band member, as it’s different for each school). I talked quite a bit about performance behavior, how to hold instruments (ask about “rest and ready position”), where they should look at the beginning and end of the piece, and how to finish the music. It’s a little rocky right now, but we have two months to polish it all up for you! Ask for a mini-concert J
Quarter One written exams were handed back this week. Ask to see your child’s, as a gauge of what he/she is retaining from the first grading period. Keep in mind, we’ll build on this all year, so they need to have a good foundation now in order to make progress.
