Dear Parents,

Congratulations

From September 2014, the school has changed its staffing structure and instead of having one deputy headteacher, we will have two assistant headteachers.

For these posts, the governors have made the following appointments:

Mrs Fatima Mayet: Fatima has worked at Batley Parish CE VA J, I and N School for six years and has been a member of the senior management team for two years. She holds a specialist qualification in Mathematics and has an interest in ICT (computing and programming). As well as this she has taught across key stage two from year 4 to year 6. She is very ambitious for the school and its community and is very well respected across both teachers and parents alike. This promotion is well deserved and I ask you to join me in congratulating her on her successful recruitment to this post.

Mr Matthew Carbutt: Matthew has worked for five years as a class teacher at Hugh Gaitskell School in Beeston, Leeds. This is a large inner city school. He lives in the local area and is passionate about raising children’s aspirations through sport. He himself is a semi professional rugby player for Doncaster.

Again, we congratulate him on his appointment to Assistant Headteacher.

Further Recruitment News

After many years of being a teaching assistant, Miss Inns has qualified as a teacher. She has worked incredibly hard for so many years to fulfill her dream and I am delighted that the Governors have appointed her to our key stage one team, from September 2014. Well done!

Arrangements for September 2014

The class arrangements for September 2014 is as follows:

Nursery: Miss Rebecca Adams

Reception: Miss Charlotte James (EYFS leader and senior manager)

Year One: Miss Angela Inns

Year Two: Miss Sarah Massey

Year Three: Miss Gruen / Miss Delaney

Year Four: Mr Adam James

Year Five: Miss Fatima Mayet / Mr Matthew Carbutt

Year 6: Miss Chris Davies

Year 5 and 6

From September 2014, children in year 5 and 6 only will be taught for mathematics in three ability settings. Thus, there will a mixture of year 5 and 6 children in each set. This will enable us to target support and deliver interventions even more effectively.

In English, children will be taught within their class grouping, although there will be one group taught separately to provide appropriate interventions.

As you may know, curriculum 2014 means that expectations for English and Mathematics attainment will be extremely high. Thus, much of the mathematics curriculum is being moved so that harder concepts are taught earlier. This new teaching arrangement will help children manage the changes because the pitch and expectation of work will be matched to ability.

Key stage 2 testing, at the end of year 6, will be based on the old numeracy strategy framework. The new test, questioning children’s understanding of the revised framework will come in from 2016.

Charity Day – Friday 20th June 2014

Please come along and help us raise funds for two local charities. The Teenage Cancer Trust and the Forget Me Not Trust. Both these charities raise much needed funds to help children and families facing life threatening illnesses.

Cancer affects most families at some point in their lives and this is particularly distressing when it involves children. A member of our own staff has had their child diagnosed with cancer in recent weeks. We would therefore ask you to support these worthwhile causes with your contributions and your support.

Non Uniform Day – Friday 20th June 2014

Please donate 50p (more if you can) and wear something casual and bright.

Coffee Morning /Afternoon – Friday 20th June 2014

From 9.00 a.m. we will be holding a coffee morning with cake stall and tombola.

From 2.30 p.m. we will be serving afternoon tea with cream and strawberry scones for sale. During the afternoon session children can bring 50p to purchase jelly and ice cream.

At both the morning and afternoon coffee sessions the choir will sing a selection of songs.

Please could we ask for donations of cakes and buns to sell on the cake stall and with tea/coffee. These can be brought to school on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining – Friday 20th June 2014

In each of the playgrounds we will draw a large cloud this we hope to fill with 5p, 10p and 20p. First of all the children will outline the cloud with their silver coins. Then we hope to spell out the initials of the two charities within the clouds.

Free School Meals

From September ALL children in classes reception, year 1 and year 2 will be entitled to a free school dinner. Children who would apply for free school meals due to benefits still need to apply as they will get their free milk as well. Milk is still to be paid for and is £9.50.

Please note: the Governing Body have made a decision that all reception, year 1 and year 2 children will take up this entitlement: there is significant evidence that school meals help to promote healthy lifestyle and good learning. There will be a varied range of choices and a pasta bar, sandwich bar and hot meals counter will be available every day. Children cannot bring sandwiches in Reception year 1 and year 2 from September.

Yours faithfully

Mr I Richardson
