Mr. Allen’s Class Procedures and Routines

-Leaving the Classroom

Restroom

  • Students are permitted 3 bathroom breaks every trimester. Although this may seem strict, students are encouraged to use restroom before or after class during class transitions.
  • Students may simply get the hall pass sheet, mark a tally by their name on the attendance sheet on my podium, write down “RR” (for restroom), and have me sign the pass. Students may NOT leave without the hall pass.
  • Please do not interrupt the class by asking to go to the bathroom, just follow the procedure above.
  • Unless special arrangements are made, students must return in 10 minutes or I will be forced to notify the office.

Locker or Another Classroom

  • In accordance with my class rules, students must come to class prepared (with all needed materials), this means no students are allowed to go to their locker or another classroom to get their materials, unless special circumstances are made.
  • If paper or pencils are needed, a peer or I can assist you.

Nurse

  • Quickly gain my attention during class and inform me of the situation, I will allow you to go to the nurse.
  • I will call the office to ensure you got there safely.

-Emergency Situations/School Wide Drills

Tornado

  • Calmly head towards the door and line up then sit down against the wall outside the classroom.
  • Follow my instructions and stay away from glass and other possible dangers.

Fire

  • Wait for me to lead you out of the class towards the nearest approved exit, we will meet outside in a pre-approved area. I will then call attendance to ensure everyone has made it safely outside.

Earthquake

  • Calmly get underneath your table and await my further instructions.

Lock Down

  • In the event of a school lock down, students should remain quiet and calm and listen to my instructions.
  • Quickly move to the inside walls where you are out of sight and remain still while I turn out the lights.
  • Continue to remain quiet and calm until told otherwise.

-Starting and Ending Class

Upon entering the class, take your seat and begin working on the bell ringer on the board (expect one everyday). You must be in your seat by the tardy bell.

All students who are not in the classroom or not in their seats by the bell will be counted tardy.

I, not the bell, will dismiss class.

Students should wait for my instruction for when they can began packing their things and putting away materials.

-Turning in Assignments

This class will utilize assignment trays for students to turn in completed work. Depending upon your class period (total of 5 periods) you will turn your work into the corresponding tray. Make-up work will also be turned in there as well.

-Grouping

For the purpose of various activities throughout this year, this class will be utilizing two different types of groups: buddy and clover groups. Students are expected to group as soon as they are giving direction to do so.

Buddy groups will be groups of two. Students will either group with the student beside them or behind them, I will instruct you on which way to group.

Clover groups will be groups of four. Students will group with the three closest students, and move their desk accordingly.

-Problems/Concerns that should be brought to the Teacher

If a issue inside or outside that classroom should occur and you would like to bring it to my attention, please ask me to meet with your privately (I can meet with you before or after school).

If you are not comfortable speaking about the problem, please write your concern down and place it on my desk or give it to me.

Please feel free to come to me about any issue you might be having; as a teacher, I am here to help you.

-Using Technology and other Resources in the Classroom

Personal Data Devices (PDD’s), AKA cell phones, will be used periodically throughout the year. I find these devices extremely for student-based research and other activities. HOWEVER, PDD’s should only be used if given permission by me. I will be forced to confiscate a student’s PDD if they are abusing this privilege.

When using the available mobile lab, please handle the laptops with extreme care, as if it were your own property.Students will be assigned a laptop number and you will use only that laptop unless told otherwise by the teacher.

Available textbooks and other texts are to be used by the entire class, please respects these books and handle them with care. These books are to stay within the classroom.

If you would like to use a book outside of the class, please ask me and I will sign it out for you. You are allowed the book for a total of 3 days so to ensure all students have access to the text. I encourage all students to take advantage of signing a book out.
