What's Wrong with Kids These Days? What We Can Do to Support Emotional Development for Children in a Complicated World -Part 1It is no secret that we live in an increasingly complex world and that this complexity has resulted in a number of challenges for the appropriate social and emotional development of children today. In this two part series, Jim gets back to the developmental basics and helps to give you some ideas about how we can better understand and support children and families in an ever-changing and complicated world. Presenter: Jim Harris, LICSW, Ed.D. Dr. Harris is the Associate Director of Training at the West Virginia Autism Training Center (ATC) at Marshall University. Jim’s focus at the ATC is the improvement and expansion of services ranging for in-home programs to national partnerships. Jim has presented at a variety of conferences from the local to the international levels on such topics as behavioral intervention, parenting, positive behavior support, trauma-informed care, organizational change, and many more. He has worked with children and families throughout his career as an early interventionist, parent educator, educational consultant, and behavioral health therapist. He has worked with a variety of public and private entities including the Fred Rogers Company, United States Department of Education, the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children, and many more. For more information about the ATC please visit Tue, Apr 11, 2017 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM EDT

Assistive Technology for Infants and Toddlers Research illustrates that infants and toddlers who use assistive technology early in their lives have increased skills and abilities to participate in the daily activities and routines of their families. Through this webinar, participants will learn how to select appropriate adaptations and modifications based on each family’s priorities and concerns and the child’s unique abilities and challenges. Emphasis will be placed on no tech, low tech, before the selection of high tech equipment and devices. Thu, Apr 20, 2017 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Early Signs of Autism Approximately 1 in every 88 children is currently being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ASD’s are growing at a rate of 10-17% each year. For many children, the early signs of Autism were present and observable before 18 months of age. This training will assist participants in recognizing early indicators or “red flags” of autism in young children so that families and teams can begin seeking appropriate diagnostic opportunities, as well as beginning to implement appropriate strategies to address learning needs as early as possible. Information will be provided on: how to respectfully share your concerns about a child’s development with parents; how to assist parents in preparing to have conversations with their physicians; resources for you and families to learn more information. Fri, Apr 21, 2017 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
