Directions for Turnitin.com – Freshmen I (Period 2)

1.  Go to http://www.turnitin.com

2.  If you remember your login information, login and join/add a class.

3.  If you don’t remember or don’t have a TurnItIn.com login and password, click “Create account” at the top right of the page.

4.  Under “Create a New Account,” choose “student” near the bottom.

5.  Enter your class ID and then the class enrollment password:

Class ID: 8371015 Enrollment Password: sampson123

6.  Enter your first and last name. These MUST be your real first and last names!

7.  Enter an e-mail address

8.  Create your own user password. In the future, to login at TurnItIn.com you will need to use the e-mail address you entered for step 7 and the user password you created for this step, so please write your e-mail and password on this sheet and save it (or write it somewhere else safe).

9.  Select a secret question and answer it (in case you lose your password)

10.  Answer the user agreement question, and then click “I agree—create profile.”

11.  Click “Log in to Turnitin.”

12.  Click the class name with the appropriate period number.

13.  Next to the name of the assignment, find and click an option to submit a paper.

14.  Choose whether you want to submit your paper by “file upload” or “copy & paste.” The “file upload” option is easier and better. Please use that one.

15.  Fill out the boxes. Note: If you use “copy & paste,” choose that option before you fill out the boxes.

16.  SUBMISSION OPTION 1 - FILE UPLOAD: Click “Browse.” Find the document file and double click the file you want to submit.

17.  SUBMISSION OPTION 2 – COPY & PASTE: In Microsoft Word you need to highlight everything, right click, and “copy” your entire paper and then right click and “paste” it into the empty box on TurnItIn that appears after you choose “cut & paste.”

18.  Check to make sure you entered all of the necessary information and that you selected the correct file, and then click “Submit” at the bottom of the screen. If another screen appears asking you to confirm your submission, click to confirm it.

19.  Congratulations, you’re done!

20.  Sometimes it takes TurnItIn.com a few minutes or longer to check your paper. You can view your results by logging in, opening our class, and finding the assignment for which you submitted a paper. There will be a percentage and color (the lower the number the better; green is the best!). You can even click the assignment to see TurnItIn.com’s detailed analysis of your paper.
