Movie Presentation

You've got the chance you've always wanted: you're going to watch a movie, but the choice of the movie is up to you.

In order to convince your classmates that your movie is the best one, you'll have to collect as much interesting material as possible, reorganize all the information and present it to the rest of the class in an attractive way.

You'll also have to evaluate your classmates' presentation according to some pre-defined criteria.

à The Task

The main task of this project is to present a chosen movie in a thorough and catching way, and to convince your classmates that yours is the movie they want to watch.

To do so, you'll have to search the Web and collect relevant, interesting material. Re-elaborate what you've found and present it to the class convincingly. Among the information you should give to your classmates, there must be:

□  a brief summary of the plot, without the end

□  the film director, short notes about him/her

□  the main actors and actresses; point out anything relevant or interesting about them

□  when the film was made, how long it took to be made

□  where the film was made, anything special about the place

□  reviews: are they mainly positive or negative? Choose two reviews about your film, one positive, the other negative. Choose the one you agree with the most and say why

□  anything else you think worth mentioning: Oscar nominations, special effects, production costs, box-office results, and so on

□  a conclusion: why you think yours is the movie to be watched at the end of the project

You should re-elaborate the material in a personal way, using your own words.
Write a handout for the teacher and prepare an oral presentation. For the presentation, you may use audiovisual support (video/sound), posters, the whiteboard or any other support you can think of. The more varied it is, the more interesting it gets.

While your classmates present their film, you will have to complete an evaluation chart yourself too. At the end of the presentations, a survey will be made and the film to be watched at the end of the project will be chosen.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this project, you’ll have practised the following skills in English:

·  Use the internet to collect information about films.

·  Use that information to write your own consistent text.

·  Collaborate with other people to prepare a text and an oral presentation

·  Make an oral presentation in front of a group of people.

·  Evaluate somebody else’s work according to given criteria.

à The Process

Here are the details of the steps you have to go through to accomplish this webquest.

Step 1 – Research

ü  First you'll form a team of three people. Think of some films you are interested in, discuss and choose the one you want to focus on. (Don’t choose films that aren’t available on DVD yet! We need a good quality film so no screeners unless they’re really good)

ü  Surf the internet and collect the information you need to accomplish your task. Here are some links you may use to find useful material:

1.  http://www.imdb.com

2.  http://www.altavista.com/

3.  http://www.google.co.uk

4.  http://www.movies.go.com/

ü  Take notes or print out what is relevant and interesting.

Step 2 - Re-elaboration

ü  Organize your material in a consistent way. Rephrase what you’ve found and create your personal text using your own words.

ü  Prepare the details for the presentation. Decide who is going to say what (everybody has to do something) and how you are going to present you findings. Prepare the handout to give to your teacher, and the supports you will need for the presentation (audio support, the URLs of the video, posters, and so on).

Step 3 - Presentation

ü  Oral presentation. Everybody in the team has to take part in it. Remember to vary your presentation by using Youtube, the whiteboard and/or or some posters. You can keep some sheets with you, but don’t read them. You should speak to your classmates.

ü  While your classmates present their film, you should listen carefully and fill in the evaluation chart (shown below).

o  Step 4 - Voting

ü  After everybody’s presentation, there will be the voting for the film you want to choose. The voting will be based on the results of the evaluation chart. The team with the highest average score will have their film shown to the class after this project.

ü  You will be given a common grade as a team which will count 10x on your report. I will also take into account the handout as part of the content area of assessment.

àEvaluation
