High School Scholarship Criteria 2016

Philosophy:

The Morrow Memorial Home Foundation wishes to commend, recognize, encourage, and promote graduating high school students who are pursuing a professional career in healthcare-related fields. This does not only involve the nursing profession but also includes the fields of Recreation Therapy, Registered Dietitian, Social Worker, Health Information Technology, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Accounting, Human Resources, Administration, etc. The professions with Geriatric or Gerontology emphasis will receive our strongest support.

Scholarship Value:

Scholarship(s) may be distributed to graduating seniors based upon the recommendation of the Foundation High School Scholarship committee.The number of scholarships and the amounts of the awards will be determined by the Morrow Home Foundation. The scholarship amounts are to be given in two payments. Payment of these scholarships will be written to the accredited colleges or technical schools of the selected recipient(s). The recipient(s) must remain in good academic standing and continue to pursue this health-care related career to receive the second payment of the scholarship awarded.

Selection Process

  • Notice is posted within Morrow Memorial Home. (Before February 1, 2016)
  • Letter is forwarded to area High School Guidance Departments to post in the High Schools.(Before February 1, 2016)
  • Applications are available at the Morrow Home Business Office or the High School Guidance Departments and also on the Morrow Home website . Some high schools may also post the application on their websites.
  • Applications and all required attachments are to be completed and returned to the Morrow Memorial Home Business Office in person or by mail and must be received no later than March 1, 2016.
  • The Morrow Home Scholarship Committee, consisting of Foundation members, will personally interview prospective applicants after a screening of the applications has been completed. This Foundation Scholarship Committee will have the authority to choose the recipient(s) of the scholarship(s).
  • A letter will be sent to the High School Guidance Department no later thanApril1, 2016,noting the Foundation’s scholarship intentions.
  • A Foundation representative will present the Morrow Memorial Home Foundation Scholarship(s) to the recipient(s) at their High School Award and Recognition Programs.
  • The recipient(s) will acknowledge the scholarship award and work with the Foundation’s Executive Director and Office Manager regarding the receipt of the tuition payments.

Selection Criteria (Weighted in order):

1. Graduating Senior (area high school) who has been accepted into an accredited post-secondary school to pursue a degree or certification in a healthcare-related field as noted in paragraph one on page one. A career that would assist the geriatric generation would be weighted higher.

2. Has some connection or relationship with the Morrow Home Community. Example: Current or past employee; volunteer; child or grandchild of an employee or Board Member; or relative of a current or past resident or tenant; etc.

3. Has personal experience, in some capacity, with individuals 70 years of age and older. Example: Employment, volunteer, personal relationships, organizational activities, etc.

4. Academic performance in high school. A grade point average of at least a C is required.

Application Process – To be received at the Morrow Home Community no later than Monday, March 1, 2016:

  1. Completed Morrow Home Foundation Scholarship Applicationincluding essay.
  2. Letter of reference from one non-related adult.
  3. Verification of acceptance into a school of higher learning. (TechnicalCollege, College, University)
  4. Verification of ACT, SAT, or Compass scores. (Counselor’s signature acceptable.)
  5. Verification of high school grade point average. (Counselor’s signature acceptable.)

Recipient Selection:

The Morrow Memorial Home Foundation Board has sole discretion in its selection of the scholarship recipients(s) and the Board’s decision cannot be challenged for any reason. Any individual submitting an application for this scholarship understands and accepts this premise.
