More creative freedom for designers

New “iglidur” semifinished materials from stock and injection moulding special parts within 1 to 10 days

With 80,000 parts from stock the plastic specialists from igus offer solutions for almost every application. igus has the appropriate solution for all designers, maintainers and mechanical engineers who produce special parts themselves or who are in need of injection moulded small series or parts from the smallest batch size: All in all the family of lubrication-free and wear-resistant “iglidur” round materials has been expanded by two to eight materials (“iglidur” A350 and J350). If a customer needs predefined injection moulded parts, the first parts are available within one day in the scope of the “Speedigus” programme.

FDA conformity and tough

New in the semifinished range are the tribo polymers “iglidur” A350 and “iglidur” J350. The blue “iglidur” A350 is applicable for middle to high loads and temperatures up to +180° C. Above that, the material is FDA conform appropriated to acidic environments and therefore predestined for the use in the food industry. The highly wear-resistant plastic material “iglidur” J350 is especially made for rotating applications and offers very low friction values - especially with steel shafts as a friction partner. High loads, shocks and impacts are no problem for “iglidur” J350. Its high temperature resistance up to + 180° C makes the material a real all-rounder. With the new materials 23 different semi-finished options made of 8 different materials are available. Depending on the material, diameters between 10 and 100 mm are available in length of 100 to 1000 mm (in 100 mm steps). Besides the round material, desired forms and sizes for prototypes and small serial productions can be ordered. The online tools at allow a simple product selection and lifetime calculation.

Injection moulding special parts within days instead of weeks

Thanks to a new method to manufacture tools, customers can now get user defined injection moulded parts in less than 24 hrs. Without minimum order quantities the “Speedigus” procedure is appropriate to prototypes with a low volume. “With it we found the niche between the rapid procedure and classic series production”, says René Achnitz, manager in the division “iglidur” plain bearings. “Standard serial tools usually need four to eight weeks to be finished and usually the cost is amortised over the production of 5000 pieces“. With “Speedigus” individual parts can now be produced and shipped in one day. Customers only need to deliver a 3D CAD file (preferably STEP) and specify the desired number of pieces. The benefit against the rapid procedure is the choice of tribo optimized “iglidur” materials and the better stiffness and stability of the ready-made plastic parts.

Currently “Speedigus” parts can be made of „iglidur“ G, J, W300, X, M250, P, A180 and H2 as well as “igumid“ G, the igus energy chain material. The best possible material for the application can be simply selected via online tool: Tool manufacturing and production will be done in a maximum of fifteen days from the order. Every “Speedigus” offer comprises of comprehensive technical information about the components including information of the lead time for the tool manufacture. The costs for “Speedigus” systems start at about € 1,000, the costs for parts at 10 cents. Part of the service is also to store customer specific tools for possible repeat orders and to provide the tools in the long run.
