Job Title: Volunteer Visitor Use Assistant

Description of Duties: The volunteer greets visitors, disseminates information about the resource, and performs sales operations for the cooperating association, marks items for sale, restocks sales and brochure shelves. He/she may also answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate division.

The volunteer may assist visitors in performing research using park facilities and operates office equipment such as copier, fax, postage meter, laminator, computer, etc. He/she may run short errands as assigned and may use a government vehicle provided that he/she has a valid state driver’s license and meets the same requirements as paid staff for operating a motor vehicle.

On occasion, the volunteer may assist in traffic direction and parking within the park. The volunteer may also represent the park at off-site facilities such as Interstate information centers during Tourism Week as assigned. Work may involve standing for extended periods.

The volunteer is required to be on time and in the proper uniform. Clothing is expected to be clean, presentable, and free of holes and rips. A name tag should be worn at all times.

Qualifications: The volunteer will posses a mature and professional demeanor while working with park visitors and staff. Be able to remain courteous and calm during possible hectic and/or emergency situations. Communicate effectively with park visitors and staff. Knowledge of the proper use of equipment is required.

Goals: The volunteer will understand, appreciate and protect the cultural and natural resources of Monocacy National Battlefield. Assist park staff by providing efficient, courteous and helpful information and services to park visitors. Safety will be maintained at all times.

Supervision: The volunteer reports directly to the Volunteer Coordinator and will receive work assignments only from that person. However, he/she may receive assignments from other interpretive staff members with the approval of the Volunteer Coordinator.

Project Duration: Ongoing

Work Schedule: The volunteer agrees to work ______hours a day per week or as otherwise stated. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to notify the Interpretive Ranger on duty if he/she is ill or otherwise unable to work. This information is expected within 30 minutes of their start time.
