TEAM CUP KNOCKOUT

This season the cup competition will take place as usual. All teams will go into a draw and teams will be drawn at random to play either home or away. The semi-final and final will be played at neutral venues determined by the committee (if both teams play their home games at the same pub / club, then the committee may opt to allow them to play at their own venue).

Semi final & final games will start at 8pm.

Any team found playing an illegal player in the cup competition will forfeit the match (see registration and eligibility rules).

ALL CUP MATCHES MUST BE PLAYED ON DATE SPECIFIED. NO CANCELLATIONS ARE ALLOWED. IF A TEAM FAILS TO MAKE THE DATE THEN THEY WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM THE COMPETITION.

DIVISIONS

There are two divisions, 1st and 2nd, each containing equal numbers of teams (if possible). At the end of the season, the bottom two teams from the 1st division will be relegated to the 2nd division and the top two teams from the 2nd division will be promoted to the 1st division. If it is deemed necessary, then more than two teams may be promoted or relegated to ensure more evenly balanced divisions.

LEAGUE TABLES

Teams can either give the league an e-mail address and we will e-mail you a league table each week or pick one up from the Oaklea Tavern (the tables are usually available on Monday evening after 7pm). Alternatively you can check out the latest results on our website (

Results MUST be sent (immediately after the match) to the League via text message by both teams, but all result cards will still be required to be delivered to the Oaklea Tavern by closing time on Friday following a Monday night game. The Captain is responsible for ensuring this happens. Teams that submit late cards will be deducted 5 points; no points will be deducted from their opponents.

PLAYERS

Ifa player under the age of 18 wishes to play, the Team Captain must contact the Pub or Club 3 days in advance, to obtain permission for him/her to visit the licensed premises. The licensee’s decision is final.

All players at the start of each season will be deemed to have read all of the rules.

Any player having registered and played for a team in any one season may not transfer and play for another team in the same season. If a player does so then the match will be deemed forfeit by the team and their opponents will be awarded the best result of the night from their division. It is the captain’s responsibility to make sure all players are eligible to play.

Any team who has a player barred from a venue, providing it is not for violent or abusive conduct needs to contact the venue licensee two weeks prior to the match to seek permission to play(licensees’ decision is final).

GAMES & MATCHES

Each match must consist of six singles and three doubles games to run in the order laid out on the official M.N.P.L results cards.

All cards must contain theFULL NAME of the player due to play (i.e. first name and surname) if this is not adhered to then the offending team shall get one warning and if this occurs again, then said team will have a point deducted for each incomplete name on the card.

One point will be awarded for each frame won and extra two points will be awarded to the team who wins the match.

Starting time for each match will be 8.30pm.

If a team fails to have four players by 9pm, the opposing team may claim the match (it will be deemed the team with less than 4 players cannot fulfil its obligation to complete the match). The team will then be assigned the same score as the best result of the night in that division.

If, during the course of the match, a team has no players to continue, they shall lose one game after each 15 minute interval after the last played game.

Any team failing to attend a match without first following the correct procedures for cancelling will forfeit that match. The match will be assigned the same score as the best result of that week in that division.

Any match which cannot be completed on the night must be concluded on or before the following Monday or the incomplete result will stand. Appeals may be made to the committee. It is the Landlord’s decision when the match can be concluded.

POSTPONEMENT OF MATCHES

If any team wishes to postpone a game then they must inform their opponents and League Secretary at least 7 days in advance. The re-arranged game must be played within two weeks of the original date.

All postponed matches must be played before the last Monday of the season which is deemed to be the date of the final league fixture.

All teams are allowed to postpone one match throughout the season. If any team wishes to postpone more than that, then the subsequent match(s) will be deemed forfeited and their opponents will receive the best result on the night from their division.

If a team does not turn up for their match without prior notification to their opponents and the league with reasons why on three occasions, whether it is home or away, they will be relieved of their status in the league and will no longer take part. In the event of this happening all league tables will be adjusted accordingly.

REGISTRATION AND ELIGIBILITY

It is an open registration and players may sign on atany time during the season. However, the last signing on date is the 3 league gamesfrom the end of season, this is to avoid any teams gaining an unfair advantage for the last 2 matches of the seasonif they either need to win a prize or avoid relegation. However in order to play in the Cup a player must have played at least one match before he/she is eligible to play in the 1st round and then play one match in between subsequent rounds.

Any team playing in the cup competition that plays an ineligible player will forfeit the match.

All players are reminded that it is the venue that is registered & not the team. Any team wishing to play from a new venue once the season has begun may do so, but the full registration fee must be paid again to the committee.

SUSPENSION FROM THE LEAGUE

Anyone found to have altered a results card for their gain will be suspended from the league.

Any fighting or foul language will result in suspension.

Players and teams, which do not complete the season’s fixtures, will be suspended from the league for the following season (unless they gain special permission from the committee).

Any team failing to attend a match twice in one season (without applying the correct cancellation procedures) will be expelled from the league unless they provide the committee with a satisfactory reason.

TEAMS UNABLE TO FULFILL THEIR FIXTURES

If a team drops out of the league for personal reasons or is exclude, then depending on the number of matches that have been fulfilled, the committee will make a decision on the remaining fixtures. If the team has fulfilled more than half the fixture of the 1st half of the season then the remaining fixtures will be awarded as best result of the night. If the team has not fulfilled more half of the fixtures of the 1st half of the season, then previous match results will be wiped from the league tables. The same applies to the second half of the season.

THE COMMITTEE

Any complaints must be put in writing and sent to the committee c/o The Oaklea Tavern. Committee members cannot deal with complaints over the phone.

Money paid into the league must be exchanged for a receipt, signed by the treasurer. The committee will not be held responsible if a receipt is not collected.

When making decisions, the committee shall consider the best interests of the league above all else. However, they will also take into account how players have conducted themselves and whether they have played the game in the spirit it is intended.

If teams or players have shown themselves to be unreliable in the completion of fixtures, the committee reserve the right to disallow players/teams to register for the following season.

Due to recent events which have indirectly involved the M.N.P.L, and several requests from Accrington Police, the committee, at a specially arranged meeting, found that they must now add the following to the rules and recommendations for the running of the league.

No team shall knowingly sign on a player whose name appears on the pub watch banned/barred list, any now found playing for your team must have their registration cancelled and take no further part in the league; any pub/club found to be in breach of the above will be expelled from the league.

We recommend that the Licensee, although not necessarily a team member, should take responsibility for the above.

SEASON END

All league matches must be played on or before the final Monday of the season (this is the last league fixture date shown on your fixture sheets, not the cup final). Any games carried over that date will be deemed forfeit by the team that cancelled the original fixture and no points will be allocated to said team, therefore the opposing team shall receive the best result from the original date the fixture should have been played.

Finally the league would like to express their thanks to all the teams that helped make last season a success and lets hope the coming season will be equally as competitive and exciting for all involved.

All players at the start of each season will be deemed to have read all of the rules.
