Mollusca and Echinodermata Unit

Task:

You will create a travel brochure of a specific area in the world where you can find tide pools. (Research this!)

Tide poolsare areas on rocks by the ocean that are filled with seawater.Tide poolscan be small, shallow puddles found high up on the shore or huge, deep holes nearer to the sea.Tide poolsform when the ocean covers the beach twice a day.

Include information about all the different kinds of echinoderms and mollusks a visitor would find there.

Requirements:

  • Your brochure should include colored drawings of the organisms and explanations, i.e. the name of each organism (be specific – for example you cannot just put ‘snail’ – give the correct name) AND an interesting fact on each organism. Find a fact that is unique to the animal.
  • Your brochure should include AT LEAST 5 organisms (Choose at least 2 mollusks and 2 echinoderms). The 5th organism may be a poriferan, cnidaria, crustacean or alga. Extra credit will be given for more organisms. (Extra credit organisms may include poriferans, cnidarians , algae and crustaceans – Again give the species name, not just a general name!)
  • Make it pretty!
  • Make a cover page for your brochure telling people what the brochure is about – advertise your specific location with its tide pool(s).
  • Use correct scientific vocabulary and names.
  • Put your name and class period on the back of the brochure.
  • You have an option to hand make the brochure or to create it on the computer. If you choose to do this on the computer, then you will have to save your work and print it in the media center and then go and add color to the brochure. Your teacher cannot print the brochure for you.

When is this due?

We will spend 2 class periods on this assignment. The brochure is due on Thursday, March 18, 2016. Brochures that are turned in after this date will be given a grade of no higher than a 69.

Grading:

Brochures will be graded with a rubric and count as 2 lab grades.
