TEACHING STAFF 2017

The following statement is a description of the desired skills, attitudes and performance of teaching staff at this school. Each teaching staff member will consider this job description alongside the Registered Teacher Criteria and the Code of Ethics.

SKILLS

Teachers must have:

·  the capacity to meet the requirements of the registered teacher criteria and relevant professional standards

·  knowledge and understanding of teaching philosophy

·  effective pedagogical practices

·  knowledge of current curricula

·  knowledge of current policies, procedural statements

·  a sufficient content knowledge for curricular areas

·  ability to cater for and accept differences.

·  ability to expect and support students to display appropriate values and behaviour

·  ability to communicate effectively in English and/or Maori.

·  ability to source information.

·  a knowledge of ICTs available and the capacity to use these to engage students and promote achievement.

·  effective self management skills

ATTITUDE TO JOB

Teachers need:

·  To be professional members of staff, in every respect

·  To have a genuine interest in and empathy for all students

·  To have a particular interest in and appreciation of the needs of emergent adolescent students

·  A willingness to work as a team member, with integrity.

·  To work conscientiously.

·  To relish involvement in an ongoing appraisal process of inquiry into their own practice and so continual development of their effectiveness

·  To be flexible recognising that group goals may override personal goals and that changes to active supervision, programme etc may be necessary

·  To be receptive to new ideas and systems which will improve student achievement.

·  To be a reflective practitioner PTO

INTERACTIONS WITH AND ATTITUDES TO PEOPLE

Teachers must:

·  Be respectful of children in general.

·  Be respectful of colleagues.

·  See children as individuals with rights.

·  Aim for attitudes to students and their families which are warm, caring, positive, patient, friendly and tolerant.

·  Show willingness to communicate with students and their families.

·  Show willingness to share and communicate with colleagues.

·  Recognise that under the requirements of the Privacy Act information about staff, students and their families must be kept confidential.

·  Respect and work within the limits of permissible physical contact with and between students.

·  Show sensitivity to cultural differences

·  Represent the school in a positive manner in the community

STANDARD TASKS

Teachers must:

·  Facilitate and encourage learning.

·  Ensure that every aspect of pedagogical practice - such as programme planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation, liaison with whānau- is completed punctually and to the highest standard possible, for the benefit of students.

·  Attend to supervisory duties punctually and professionally.

·  Use school resources in the agreed manner.

·  Ensure that administrative tasks are completed as required.

·  Provide a learning environment which is safe and establishes high expectations which value and promote learning.

·  Contribute to co and extra curricular activities

·  Respect and maintain all school property and resources
