POST TITLE: Kitchen Assistant

LOCATION: Sellywood House

DEPARTMENT: Supported Housing

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head Cook

JOB CONTEXT:

To undertake a range of tasks within the kitchen at Selly Wood House, to ensure that residents of the home are provided with nutritious and tasty food, that meets their dietary requirements. To ensure that all food hygiene, environmental and legal standards are maintained.

A)  To assist in the preparation of the dining room, prior to meals being served to residents.

B)  To provide a trolley service with refreshments to residents.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)  To prepare food for meals, as required by the Head or Deputy Cook, or under the direction of another senior member of the kitchen staff e.g. preparing vegetables.

2)  To assist with general kitchen duties.

3)  To ensure Health and Safety requirements in the kitchen are complied with at all times.

4)  To undertake all required training.

SERVICE SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:

5)  To ensure food is prepared in a safe manner.

6)  To assist with the preparation and serving of breaks and suppers to residents

7)  To set up the refreshment trolley

8)  To carry out washing duties

9)  To check and record temperatures of fridges and freezers as required and record findings

10)  To attend staff meetings

11)  To carry out any other duties that might be required from time to time.

Internal: Residents living in Selly Wood House. Kitchen staff, nurses, carers, housekeepers within Selly Wood House.

External: Residents, relatives, members of the public and wide range of professionals from statutory agencies.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT:

The post is situated within Selly Wood House.

You will be required to work evenings and weekends to assist with the covering of shifts.
