Meeting Discussion

  • Funding applications were sent out incorporated into a newer version, discussed who has read through it.
  • Confusion on how the two proposals go together. The funding across the board is $10,000 concerns about funding and how much the program will get.
  • Use the messaging one because of the different work groups, wanting MOCAN to work on the funding. The focus should be on the strategic plan want to hear from multiple subgroups, and MOCAN is open to listening. Wanting to move forward and submitting goals, ask different work groups to submit possibly unfunded.
  • Deb wrote up this plan, but she is not on the call so they cannot discuss much without her. Discussing about making comments and sending them into her as a group. Questions about why these two groups specifically. Deciding to send email with comments after the call, sending individual clarification questions.
  • Both well written. Funding for both would be fantastic.
  • Comments on survey: more straightforward, does it have all of the components that are wanted to capture, wanting survey to be broadly useful, workgroup looking at survey and how it can be used strategically. Child Care work group leaderships still need to ask someone about this possibility, if not they can just be the work groups. Need to develop survey, since funding for MOCAN need survey to work for all groups. Funding period does not get into implementation of the survey, want survey dev and ready to go at a moment’s notice. Wanting to do survey closer to 2018 for freshest data. Partners in work group to have things they are working on to help with distribution. Submitting for less than $2,000. Child care lead will be out for a few months and she doesn’t want to push the timeline to fast. May only return to material once a month, might make sense next month and make a plan of results. Using incentives for the surveys and finding funding for that. 15-20% on surveys more engaged in survey and are considered the most important ones.
  • Child Care has done 2 focus groups, one from St. Louis, tagged onto their two groups. Trial on how it would go, got excellent feedback from teachers and the impact, what they need and the resources that they have. Not representative of teachers statewide, these teachers were the ones interested in health and wellness. For more focus groups want to cast a wider range over the state to get a better selection of teachers. Wanting to find funding for focus groups too, the issue is when and how to find funding for them the goal is next fall. May be individual groups with different leaders like teachers. Groups without leadership were more candid, want different constituencies and if it makes sense to do child care directors and teachers separate. If there are surveys that capture part of this any previous work can help guide this project, anything targeted at teachers in the past can be helpful. In KC there was surveys on current practices, some reference to that and has a good baseline. Results for the Eat Smart focus groups will be sent, nothing done with Move Smart. Program is in process concerned with having enough equipment and finding the funding for the equipment. Writing a Move Smart activity kit that meets the requirements, less pieces of equipment. In larger centers it is harder to meet equipment requirement, categories of equipment are different. Challenge for equipment is the funding. A small grant was refused and another grant was applied for, it has been put on the backburner. Looking at indoor gardens. Received some funding through Extension but it was not enough. Stuff is ready there is just a lack of equipment and funding. Suggestion to offer training and giving equipment away at door prizes at training, it would take a lot of prizes.
  • Any comments or questions on proposal they will be sent to Jessica, this is due on the 15th but she is going to try and send it in by the end of the week. Jessica should be back for the next meeting. She will send draft out to the group and submit any comments, and review Deb’s application and send her questions.
  • Small funding through coin working to help with Childhood obesity, online training for physical activity. Working with different partners on best way to distribute, there is a core group ID Jessica and Emily will be a part of the core group with different jobs. People with physical activity training can join the group and will need to apply. Starting work by March. Walking and biking trails are on the agenda.
  • Beth Ann will take over for next month and she will receive word if it is funded.
