BASiCPresident
-ArtSci Assembly to get everyone involved in student council and discuss issues
-have representatives from all over, look out for interest of students
-assembly every 2 weeks, same week as SSMU council
- no SSMU council this week, will have council next Tuesday, after that every second week
-Sept 23rd-same room HSSL M3-17A, Oct 7th, Oct 21st, Nov 5th, Nov 18th, Dec 2nd
-general format of assembly, everyone give update with their portfolio
-attendance at assembly
-if SACS, SASS, NiRC don't show up for two meetings in a row or 3 meetings in total, they will lose funding and vote
-vote could be reclaimed by coming to speak with executive committee
-send someone in from your council to replace you and it won't count as absence
-senators and SSMU reps can send in updates if absent
-one co-chair from SACS is ok
Update
-helped SACS with constitution
-working with exec to create new position
-meetings with presidents of other faculties to build good relationships
-presidents round table with SSMU today
-thinking of collaborating on projects and events
-rewrite ArtSci constitution this year; have been 2-3 referendums past years and constitution has become messy, will work on it with presidential affairs committee
-C2C conference this year for ArtScis across Canada, BASiC hosting it late in January
BASiC VP Finance
-concerned with our budget, needs to be approved by AUS and SUS
-can't give final budget until they are ready
-very good chance of getting it approved
-final draft next Tuesday, ask if any questions
-if you have outstanding expenses that need to be reimbursed, send email
-want to get it done before October
-if you are organizing an event, you purchase what you need and keep receipt, then come to me with receipt for reimbursement
-for SASS, SACS, Ampersand, your budget needs to be approved by me

-ArtSci Coord position for frosh over summer
-frosh was huge success
-committee applications for AUS & SUS available, all welcome to join
-ie. Sci Games coord, etc
-SACS, room has been booked for you for CogSci research day
-build up the philanthropy aspect of portfolio --> SUS Sustainability week
-organization that helps support mental health pts & families
-collaborating with FYA on Gerts Night (Frosh reunion & artsci get-together)
-focus on mental health awareness, Oct 2nd, Oct 3rd
-AUS council

-Grad games coming up beginning of November
-procedural motions like approving electoral officer at AUS, SUS

-VP Internal resigned over summer, promoted grad representative
-working through summer on constitution
-been meeting with program director and advisor, got an office
-office is in 3434 McTavish - 406, will have drop-in hours for students
-started planning research day for end of October
-helping another McGill student who wants to plan a cogsci event
-helping him to apply for funds and get resources
-looking into getting specialized rep for cogscis

-hosting first event- wine & cheese, first week October
-looking into Burnside, going through faculty
-important meeting Oct 3rd with McGill Office of Sustainability
-have collaboration with them
-discussing having a blog, want to grow
-do not have a lounge, use Geography faculty lounge currently
SSMU Representative
-first SSMU council last week
-elections SSMU rewrote their bylaws
-changing voting period to 3 days, reduces overlap of campaign and voting
-extending deadline
-rank all of the candidates - different preferential ballots
-will ask them about specific procedures
-establish elections review committee, can investigate disputes
-will be there for consulting
-selected by SSMU, find those who are impartial
-any member of society or pool of SSMU counselors
-planning on implementing a demerit system for elections
-makes things more quantifiable
-they would be justified in reviewing them
-events
-indigenous awareness week right now
-tomorrow 2-4pm somewhere in SSMU is dream catcher making
-community engagement day, Oct 2nd, facilitators needed
-sitting on bylaw review committee
-created council initiated yes committee
-frosh budget not complete yet
-Ted X for 2015, looking for involvement, check listservs
-Gerts now has pizza
-changed club funding, now installment, 40% upfront, rest of 60% based on what you spend
-this way clubs are forced to document everything
-Mental Health, hired coordinator Mae
-still deciding on possible events, have lots of proposals
-Equity needs a second commissioner
-equity campaign, will have a big event around consent soon
-SSMU will clear up their position on food accessibility
-the fall GA is Oct 22 in SSMU ballroom, everyone come
-preferential ballot will go to GA
-vote in all referendums
BASiC VP Academic
-haven't started sitting on different committees
-spent summer emailing professors to see if they want to be involved
-draw a lot of content from student experiences and research
-main academic situation, BASC 201
-mixed reviews
-maybe set up tutoring services for that class
-will start seeing if we actually need the course
BASiC VP Internal
-ArtSci frosh groups were mostly ArtSci only leaders and ArtSci only froshees
-had two events during frosh
-had day event on Mont Royal, icebreakers, went well
-night event next day was a pre-party, science games style
-science had all ages events, arts had a movie night as alternative
-looking to do alternative events in the future
-meeting with admin, dean of students, coords
-concerned about continuity
-Milton park community is happy
-worked on harm reduction, street safety
-have suggestions for next internal
-semi is booked, Nov 7 at Thompson House
-will meet about specifics in 2 wks
-science games, last week of January 23-25th
-same week as departmental cup, Arts version of science games
-majority of ArtScis will probably do science games
-form an ArtSci team for this year
-need to have 4 captains, choose within next 2 weeks
-will put it in listserv
-Hype night, Nov 12 at cafe campus
-must be server trained if you want to be captain
BASiC VP FYA
-Gerts night, Oct 2, for froshies and new ArtScis
-had 23 people fill out applications for BASiC Buddies: 10 first years, 13 upper years
-a lot of cogscis applied
-2 first years in SSS, no one in upper years yet
-send it out in listserv
-will send out a deadline before Gerts night
-everyone sign up as buddies
BASiC VP Communications
-working on promotional material for events throughout the year
-fixing the website currently, talk to me if you want something added
-responsible for twitter, website, listserv
-suggestions for listserv, send them to me
-will work on C2C website
ArtSci Senator
-Senate is highest academic governing body at McGill
-some debate by students at senate
-sitting on Mental Health Committee, SSMU committees (student services)
-tomorrow is first senate meeting, submitted 3 questions
-get McGill to make public statement about issue
-one is asking about sexual assault policy
-another about mental health working group
-another question about Quebec budgetto see how students are affected, if there will be course cuts, etc
-personal project ---> looking at exam policy
-focus on final exams, they are done through service point
-ie. if you have 3 exams in one day, easier to figure out with prof, with service point, forced to defer to next semester
-want to look at whether other universities have more lenient exam policy
-yesterday there was meeting with principal and deputy of Student Life & Learning
-released some goals they want to achieve throughout the year
-talked about interdisciplinary degrees
-one of the biggest problems is that these students slip through the cracks
-how cogsci students can't get into classes
-acknowledged that there was a problem
-if anyone wants to collaborate, contact Chloe
-need to find solutions to ArtSci problems
-ArtSci scholarships for example
-do not fall under Arts or Science and are not eligible
SACS Motion - to adopt new Constitution
-as of last referendum, SACS is official department under BASiC
-submitted constitution that will be adopted, key points:
-finances in line with BASiC constitution
-outlined exec council
-2 science stream reps, 1 arts stream rep
-if anthropology added as stream, 2 arts reps
-grad rep and first year rep
-co-presidents elected within council
-
-Votes --> 1 vote per association, each exec gets a vote
-motion passed
-everyone voted in favor
BASiC Motion - create position of Executive Revenue Officer
-8th executive position to BASiC team
-appointed by BASiC executive
-will provide VP finance with additional sources of income
-will sit on both NiRC and C2C conferences
-in charge of sponsorship for BASiC
-will increase our fundraising efforts and make more income
-will have vote at exec but not at assembly
-would be one year position for now, could include in constitution for next year
