Online Media Code of Conduct

The majority of this course will be conducted through the use of computers and the internet. Large portions will be conducted independently with the instructor acting only as a consultant. Any material created by students that is deemed inappropriate for the school setting, or that violates the student-technology code of conduct will result in immediate disciplinary action, loss of course credit, and in extreme instances, removal from the course. Inappropriate use of technology will not be tolerated in the slightest (this also includes material directed at classmates or other students). If you even slightly feel as if content you are creating/posting is not school appropriate, consult the instructor immediately.

Course Description

This class focuses on the basic logic behind programming using Android App Inventor, introduction to programming with JavaScript, and other forms of App creation. Students taking this class must possess basic computer skills; in addition, knowledge of Linear Algebra is preferred. This is an advanced level class. The majority of the work in this class will be done during school hours, and large portions will require students to work independently. Students will also create their own website to display their work, and participate in numerous message-board style discussions.

Grading

This course will be graded on a total-points scale and grades will be compiled from various assignments, discussions, and class projects.

Initial Course Requirements

G-Mail Accounts

This course requires the use of a Gmail account. Students who do not have a Gmail account will need to create one. This account will be used for communication to and from the instructor, submission of several assignments, and will also help with access to several programs needed throughout the course.

Collaborize Classroom Accounts

This course will also utilize a collaborize classroom message board for discussions and other collaborative work. The course site is . Your instructor will give your further instruction at a later time.

Student Yolasite

Students will also create a personal web-site using “Yola” to submit/display assignments and showcase their personal creativity. Your instructor will give your further instruction at a later time.

Other Course Policies

  • No food or drinks are permitted in the computer lab.
  • The use of youtube or other media sites is prohibited unless it deals specifically with instruction or a class assignment. In other words, recreational use of these sites will not be allowed.
  • Music will be played by the teacher—using websites to stream music will not be allowed.
  • Once again, any abuse or improper use of the school’s technological resources will not be tolerated in any way.
  • Treat all materials and equipment with the utmost respect. If you notice any damage/problems with your computer, tell the instructor immediately. If you fail to alert the instructor about any issues, you will be held responsible for the damage.Check your equipment at the beginning of every class!
  • Students must use their assigned school ID and password to log on to computers
  • Computers are ONLY for assignments. No music, unauthorized videos, gaming or emailing allowed.
  • Students should not store files on the local computer. They must use their network account.
  • Students are not permitted to modify any software settings or hardware components on the computers in the labs. Any concerns should be brought to the instructor’s attention.
