2. List any partner on cattle currently owned (example: family). Write a short paragraph explaining any partners that you have, whether they are family partners on commercial cattle or other partners on registered show cattle.

3. List a few of the highest awards won only on those cattle still in your current ownership.

4. Write a paragraph of how your involvement with cattle began.

5. Write a summary (no more than two pages typed) of your operation including a response to the following questions if they pertain.

*Describe your feeding programs, breeding program, land management practices.

*Describe future plans or building strategies for your herd, describe your plans for next year.

*Describe briefly your major income and expenses.

*Describe any routine chores.

6. Describe what your future goals are and whether they are cattle related or not.

7. Include a pictorial digest of your operation. This may include drawing, photographs or anything that shows the operation that you are describing. This digest may be put into book form, posters, etc. No slides may be used. The digests will be put on display at the Annual Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association Convention.

Description, Rules & Guidelines

DESCRIPTION: To focus entirely on the cattle operation held by the MJCA member. Used to promote increased knowledge of the real world cattle operation, management, record keeping and speaking ability. May include show calves, registered cow herds, commercial herds (stockers, cow-calf, etc.). No matter how large or small an operation, award decisions should be based on management, knowledge, application and the control that the applicant has over his or her operation.

RULES:

1. Applicant must be a paid member of the Mississippi Junior Cattlemen’s Association.

2. There will be a junior and senior age division. The junior division will be ninth grade and below and the senior division will be tenth grade to age 21. Applicants may enter until they win.

3. A brother and sister (or brothers and sisters) may enter as one entry. They must enter in the oldest age division.

AWARDS:

The winner will be announced and presented at the Annual Convention of the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association, Saturday, February 11, 2017.

1. Cash or scholarship awards.

2. Embroidered or engraved trophy awards.

3. A photo along with an article will be published on the winner in Cattle

Business in Mississippi magazine.
