salon awards ‘cut above’young apprentice
A young salon apprentice from Sutton-in-Ashfield is flying high after professionally qualifying following a work-based apprenticeship scheme, and being awarded with her own set of scissors at a special presentation.
Danielle Mallatratt, 20, completed her professional NVQ Level 3 hairdressing qualification through an apprenticeship with Hair & Beauty, a salon based at Slimming World head office in Somercotes, Alfreton. Danielle first joined the salon team as an apprentice in May 2013 and, through shadowing other stylists and on-the-job training, managed to complete all her modules and become fully qualified in just over a year.
Danielle was presented with professional scissors, champagne and flowers by salon Manager Victoria Hallam at a surprise presentation held at the salon. Victoria says: “We are all so proud of Danielle and what she has managed to achieve in the past year – she really is a ‘cut above’.
“She joined Hair & Beauty after completing her NVQ level 2 and, although qualified enough to leave her professional training there, felt she wanted to progress even more - and at Hair & Beauty we had every confidence that she could do it! With our in-salon training and guidance she completed her NVQ level 3 and re-studied modules from level 2 as a refresher. The extra work Danielle put in is a credit to the high standards she sets herself. Recapping her knowledge and advancing herself at the same time meant she really grew in confidence, and her relationship with clients blossomed as a result.
“Danielle has had a tremendous journey and managed to overcome all the challenges she’s come up against. She’s become a confident, credible professional with her own set of regular, returning clients – we couldn’t have asked for more!
“Supporting young, local talent is extremely important to us and that’s why we take on new apprentices each year. We put every effort into deliveringdedicated in-house training to ensure our apprentices succeed with maximum confidence; we have just taken on two young apprentices who we hope will follow in Danielle’s footsteps. It’s great for them to see how fantastically well Danielle has done, and I’m sure they’ll strive to do the same.”
Danielle says: “It was lovely to be presented with the gifts from Victoria and the rest of the team. I absolutely love working here and hope this will just be the start of something very exciting for my future career at Hair at Beauty – I can’t wait to learn even more! It’s always been my dream to work in a salon like this, I feel blessed to work somewhere so supportive and I’ll always be so grateful for the chance Victoria and the team gave me.”
At junior stylist level, the time the salon apprentices get with clients is slightly longer, but at a more affordable price. Lots of clients love having the choice and helping young apprentices at Hair & Beauty progress.
