Mission Focused Board Meeting

  1. Mission is Front and Center.
  2. The mission statement is posted at meetings and on key documents.
  3. Tell Kid stories (better yet let kids tell their own stories)
  4. Relate board decisions back to mission.
  5. Create a Sense of Community.
  6. Know each other’s story.
  7. Make board meetings fun.
  8. Create virtual environments where the board is interacting outside of the boardroom.
  9. Prayer is more than opening and closing the meeting.
  10. Have a season of prayer in your meetings.
  11. Create non-board-meeting times of prayer.
  12. Keep prayer needs communicated to the board through out the month.
  13. Create a “Pride of Ownership” Amongst the Board.
  14. Proud of larger YFC movement. Expose the board to YFC outside of your town.
  15. Proud of the YFC work in your town.
  16. Visit sites.
  17. Give honest feedback to the ED.
  18. A Strong sense of ownership. (That’s my YFC!)
  19. When asking the board to make a decision, give them all the information needed to make that decision.
  20. The pronouns are “We, Our, and Us.”
  21. ED Effectiveness is more important than ED Comfort.
  22. Set your ED up to succeed.

  24. Give corrective feedback in solution oriented statements.
  25. Don’t take their gifts for granted – continue to praise.
  26. If appropriate, place safety nets where needed.

  29. If you do monthly board meetings don’t reschedule if the ED is out of town.
  30. Allow all concerns about the ED to surface – better to have them on the table than hidden in the hearts of the board members.

  37. Make Expectations a Common Understanding.
  38. Remove all stated expectations that will not be enforced.
  39. Have systems in place to enforce stated expectations.
  40. The culture of the boardroom is one of the areas for expectations.
  41. Create a Foundation that can Withstand the “100 Year Storm.”
  42. Structure for the worst case scenarios.
  43. Keep relationship solid and ready for hard work.
  44. The Board is the Steward of YFC in Your Town.
  45. Board members above reproach in their personal and business lives.
  46. Business practices must be of the highest ethics.
  47. The safety of the kids comes first – always!
  48. The most mission for the dollar.
