Mission Control Job Descriptions

Job Title / Description
CAPCOM / Responsible for ALL radio communication between Mission Control, X-VE and ISS. Works with the Flight Director, Data Specialist and SIM instructor.
Flight Director / Keeps track oftasks completed by X-VE, ISS and Mission Control. Records data in software that is displayed in mission control. Reports to the SIM instructor.
Data Specialist / Keeps track of tasks completed by X-VE and ISS. Records data on spreadsheet that is displayed in Mission Control. Reports to the SIM instructor.
Chief Medical Officer / Responsible for completing scientific investigations in the medical field. May also may participate in project specialist activities.
Project Engineers / Responsible for assisting X-VE and ISS personnel as needed. Performs tasks that require problem-solving, collaboration, strategy and design.

MISSION JOB DESCRIPTIONS

SHUTTLE / STATION
Commander- Responsible for all activities and crew members aboard the shuttle. Maintains communication with CAPCOM. / Chief Engineer- Responsible for all activities and crew members aboard the station. Maintains communication with CAPCOM.
Pilot- Second in command after Commander. Responsible for launch, landing and assisting the Commander in any way necessary. / Navigator- Second in command after Chief Engineer. Responsible for launch, landing and assisting the Chief Engineer in any way necessary.
Computer Specialist - Responsible for maintaining the computers on board, typing and transmitting completed documents. / Technology Specialist -- Responsible for maintaining the computers on board, typing and transmitting completed documents.
Computer Scientist- Works cooperatively with Computer Specialist I to complete tasks assigned. / Technology Engineer- Works cooperatively with Technology Specialist I to complete tasks assigned.
Communication Specialist- Manages all materials aboard the shuttle. Responsible for all activities/materials incoming and outgoing. Must be organized. / Payload Specialist- Manages all materials aboard the shuttle. Responsible for all activities/materials incoming and outgoing. Must be organized.
Research Specialist- Responsible for providing crew members with information for specific tasks. / Mission Engineer- Serves as a problem solving expert. Good with details.
Math Specialist- Serves as a problem- solving expert. / Mission Scientist- Serves as a problem-solving expert.
Medical Specialist- Responsible for monitoring pulse and temperature for all shuttle crew members and completing scientific investigations in the medical field. / Medical Specialist- Responsible for monitoring pulse and temperature for all shuttle crew members and completing scientific investigations in the medical field.
