Minutes of the meeting of the

Tibetan Terrier Health & Welfare Foundation

Liverpool, New York

March 25, 2008

Meeting was called to order by Robert Kreis at 7PM. Directors in attendance were Sue Carr, Brenda Algar, and Brenda Brown. Jac Herschler was present by telephone. Absent was Director Anette Ohman. Also in attendance was Secretary, Jackie Faust and guest, Ken Edmonds.

Bob Kreis accepted the resignation of Alice Smith and reported that the TTCA appointed Jackie Faust to fill her position.

Treasurer’s Report

Jac Hershler’s written report of March 15, 2008 was distributed by Jackie Faust (attached here). As of February 29, 2008, the Foundation maintains assets of $29,581.95 designated for rescue in a separate account from other Foundation assets of $16,131.26. The current figure for non-rescue money is now $18,241. The Foundation is committed to send $8500 to the CHF/DAF to cover a previously reported balance due for two grants (for NCL and LL) approved by the TTCA. Brenda Brown reported that the CHF erred in their statement of our balance in the DAF, and actually there is only $600 currently in that fund. Jac Hershler asked for proof that our money will be used for these specific grants. Bob Kreis suggested and Jac Hershler concurred, that $2000 per payment be made quarterly to the CHF/DAF. With each payment, a request for a quarterly report from the CHF will be made.

Last year, Bob Kreis and Jac Hershler were bonded. In addition, liability insurance was purchased for $650 per year. This decision by Bob Kreis and Jac Hershler was made because rescue monies are kept by the TTHWF.

Rescue

Bob Kreis decided that Anette Ohman can get up to $500 from the TTCA treasurer for rescue, and that money will be reimbursed to the TTCA by the TTHWF. The Board ratified this decision by motion, made by Brenda Algar. Brenda Brown seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Anette Ohman requested separate accounting of rescue donations and adoption donations.

Fundraising

Jac asked that we keep a record of names of people donating. The consensus of the Board was to set the price of the Commemorative Plates at $125. 24 bottles of NY wine with commemorative labels, donated by Jackie Faust, will have a minimum bid of $15, and will be silent auctioned at the Wednesday night dinner auction. Six Mathiesen books donated by Jackie Faust will sell for $75 at the Foundation table on Thursday.

Brenda Algar reported that significant donations are forthcoming from the letter campaign. She requested that the web site be set up to further donations.

Web Site

Previously, Anette reported that Tom Ohman needs to know how many items we want to carry in our web store/shop. He also needs to know if we want to accept credit cards or PayPal before he can set up the web site. Jac Hershler reported that for a credit card account at the Bank of America, they charge a one-time $150.00 set-up and licensing fee and a $20.00 per month charge for the secure gateway. In addition, they charge $10.00 per month. For each transaction, we will pay 2.29% of each donation plus $0.25 per transaction. The banker advised Jac that PayPal would be more economical for lower volume web sales.

Logo

A motion to approve the logo created by Sandy White with the endless knot design was made by Sue Carr. Bob Kreis seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Health

Sue Carr distributed a written progress report submitted by Alice Smith (to the Jacquie Liewer Memorial Fund) from Dr. Gustavo Aguirre, VMD, PhD. The attached report, named “Project PRA in Tibetan Terriers”, outlines Dr Aguirre’s objective, methods, results, perspectives and future direction and needs. He is requesting additional samples from unrelated affected dogs of the right age (age 8 months-1 year), plus samples from their unaffected parents. A minimum of 5 additional affected dogs would be optimal. Dr. Aguirre wrote that he currently plans to continue the research by testing additional candidate genes known to cause early onset inherited retinal degeneration.

Sue Carr motioned that we send $2500 to Dr. Aguirre’s Project PRA in Tibetan Terriers at the University of Pennsylvania. Brenda Brown seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Sue Carr requested that Dr. Aguirre’s report be published in the TTCA Newsletter.

A motion to adjourn was made at 8:40PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jackie Faust
