MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE OHIO LMSC
The annual meeting of the Ohio LMSC was called to order by Mel Smith, chair of the board of directors, at 5:50 PM on Saturday, 26 January 2002. A quorum was established with 9 members of the LMSC present.
The minutes of last year’s LMSC meeting were submitted and approved.
Treasurer’s report: Jack Kangas for Beth Emery. A journal of the LMSC account was presented listing all transactions for the prior year. The treasurer’s report was approved as written and will be submitted to the national office. Mel Smith asked for ideas regarding spending the extra money saved by emailing the newsletters to the members by greatly reducing the printing & postage costs. A suggestion was made to give medals to the state meet event winners. Jack Kangas suggested rather to give a team award rather than medals as most people have too many ribbons and medals as it is. Laura Wright made a motion to sponsor an event at the USMS Nationals this summer in Cleveland. Mel Smith amended the motion to sponsor one male event and one female event. The Men’s and Women’s 50 Freestyle sponsorship was approved.
There were no other reports as no other officers were present.
The planning committee is discussing the strong points of the LMSC. It was noted by Laura Wright that the LMSC is 50 swimmers ahead of the registrations to date compared to the previous year.
There was a discussion of the upcoming state meet at Bowling Green University. Suggestions were made for the awards. It was agreed that no one likes the medals. Tshirts such as those handed out at the Miami University meet (today’s meet) were proposed. Jack Kangas made a motion to form a committee with $500 to help with the awards. The motion was passed. Jack Kangas, Mel Smith, Barry Walsh, Joe Reinhardt and Ann Guins (if permitted) will serve on this committee.
Buckeye Masters will have a meet in mid-April.
The Northern Kentucky Master’s meet at the Silverlake Rec Center from the summer of 2001 was discussed. There was a very poor turnout at the meet. Perhaps the meet was not well publicized. We must make it a priority to support this upcoming meet in March for this club. Scott Goertemiller and CJ Rushman will contact Bill Hofacre to publicize the meet.
There was discussion of the mailing of the newsletter and meet entry forms versus email distribution. Laura Wright noted that most of the USMS registration forms received to date contained an email address. Mel Smith made a motion for Laura Wright to mail the entry forms to those individuals without an email address. The motion was passed.
Convention Information – Mel Smith suggested that Laura Wright and Jack Kangas attend the USMS convention.
Mel Smith, Ohio LMSC Chairperson, submitted her resignation for personal reasons. Scott Goertemiller made a motion to accept Mel Smith’s resignation letter. The motion passed. Mel Smith read the Ohio LMSC bylaws relevant to election of a new president in mid-term. CJ Rushman nominated Scott Goertemiller to become the new chairman. The motion was passed. Scott will solicit someone to assume the position of Secretary. The remaining members of the board remain the same. The officers are listed below.
New Business – Jack Kangas discussed the potential merger of the Ohio and Lake Erie LMSCs. Mel Smith gave details of how to accomplish this.
No other business was offered and the meeting was adjourned at 6:55 PM
