Minutes of CNASA Executive Meeting January/07 – July/07

1.. Request from Kathy Chorney to hold an agility trial in Saskatoon. One day trial with 2 regular rounds and 2 JWW rounds. Same judges as last year, expenses shared with D&S Dogs Of Course. There were ribbons left over from last year's trial. Cathy Bishop made a motion for the Saskatoon group to go ahead with their one Day CKC agility trial in Sept with the request to follow the Club protocol and to please ask for help if any questions on the paperwork. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

2.. Cathy Bishop requested 4 advances over the year in the amount of 500.00 each

for the upfront costs of doing the newsletter, with the expectation that she would be reimbursed if the expense goes over the projected cost of that particular newsletter. She will keep track of all receipts and send them on to Anna. Deb Markowski made a motion for these advances to be sent. Seconded by Anna Hewson. Motion passed.

3.. Cathy Bishop requested $75 for Aussie prizes and ribbons for the CKC herding trial in Saskatoon in August. Deb Markowski made a motion to "boost" this trial. Seconded by Janis McCarthy. Motion passed.

4.. New Members: Katie Williams, Marnie Cook, Kelly Farquhar, Jo-Ann Johnson, Christine and Cindy Belanger, Grant Close/Jodi Rogers, Gail Stephens

5.. With the change in Treasurers, the bank account was transferred to the Bank of Montreal and Jane McNee and Lisa Dahr have signing authority.

6.. Kathy Kimmel contacted the CKC to change the contact info in Dogs in Canada and updated the website address.

7.. Kathy Chorney requested permission to hold a CKC Booster at the Saskatoon show May 5. Cathy Bishop made a motion that Kathy Chorney can go ahead and plan an Aussie Booster for BOB, BO, WD, WB, BW, BP and HIT OBED at the Hub City show in May. Seconded by Janis McCarthy. Motion passed.

8.. Lisa Dahr will organize a booster at the NBKC show.

9.. Lisa Dahr will run the Lucky Duck fundraiser again. Last year's raised $350.

10.. Cathy Bishop made a Motion that the CNASA club donate $30.oo towards each general Breed Booster with this being revisited on an annual basis. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

11.. Cathy Bishop made a motion that Lisa Dahr may go ahead and organise a CA Sharp seminar if the interest is there to support the seminar. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

12.. Cathy Bishop made a motion to approve the hosting of herding clinics planned for 2007 with Sue Jewel organized by Lisa Dahr. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

13.. Cathy Bishop made a motion to approve the hosting of either an AHBA trial tested levels and/or CKC Herding tested level that the maritime group feels comfortable organising given the resources/volunteers they have at hand. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

14.. Lisa Dahr made a motion that CNASA is present at the Breed Information Booth, General PR and sharing of Aussie Information at the Halifax Forum on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at a cost: $30 per table. Motion passed.

15.. Kathy Kimmel received the CKC Account Statement. We no longer have a credit. With the 3 invoices received (and passed on to Anna), we now have a balance

owing of $479.04. The 3 invoices were for $258.38 (entry fees for all breed arena trials Aug 25-27/06), $189.48 (entry fees for Aug 25 All breed stock

trials and Aug 26-27 all breed arena trials), and $585.92 (entry fees for Nov 25-26 All breed agility trials).

16.. From Clare Park regarding the Member's Only section of the new website:

The information that is put up on the Members Only part of the site can be as much, or as little, as the board deems

necessary. My SUGGESTIONS for additions to that section would be:

1) A list of members with phone numbers and e-mail addresses

2) A MONTHLY financial statement

3) The "How to run an event" section

4) A "Latest News" section with whatever new and important topic(s)the board feel should be brought to the attention of the membership at large. This would (should) be the first page that the members will check on their section of the site and it could be "hoped" that they will learn to check it frequently.

Rhonda Shewchuk will work on the "How To" section.

17.. Valerie Yates has offered to help out with the newsletter. Cathy and Deb will remain as assistants.

18.. Regarding use of the CNASA logo - the logo should be kept for official club use only. We could supply a banner on the website for people to use to link to the club website or just use a text link.

19.. Regarding Hall of Fame titles - especially for Stud dog and Brood Bitch titles, it is extremely difficult to get copies of all the required certificates. Deb Markowski offered an alternative suggestion - to post the titles and offspring in the newsletter and allow up to 3 months for "challenges." If any of the titles are challenged, the owner would be required to submit proof from the CKC that the dog in question did have the title.

20.. Many of the committees are in need of chairpersons and members. Clare Park offered to go through the Committees lists and remove all non-member names. She also offered to send out the "updated" Committees list to all the members in an e-mail asking for people to volunteer to sit on the various Committees. The responses will be sent to Clare and she will keep the list on the website up to date. Deb Markowski made a motion or Clare to "cleanup" the committee list and contact current members to see if they will sit on committees. Seconded by Cathy Bishop. Motion passed. The board should also work on a directive about the responsibilities and expectations for each of the committees. It was agreed to table this discussion until a later meeting.

21.. Kathy Kimmel has taken over as owner/moderator of the CNASA membership email list. She will send out welcome emails and list invitations to new members as they are approved.

22.. Janis McCarthy made a motion to change the membership cut-off to Jan. 31 (rather than March 1) to remain in good standing. In order to change this we would have to change our bylaws (currently read 60 days after Dec. 31). This will be added to a list of things to revamp when the bylaws are reviewed. Bylaw changes require a membership vote.

23.. Maritime Herding Clinic/Trials: June 1-2 will be 2 day clinic with Sue Jewell - taking 8 working spots.

June 3 is a herding instinct test day - max 24 dogs.

September 1 is a clinic refresher day for up to 8 spots

September 2 and 3 are trial days as follows:

Sept. 2 1 run each

AHBA - HCT and JHD - CKC HT

Sept. 3 1 run each

CKC - HT...AHBA - JHD and HCT

Sue Jewell really wants the trial participants to have the chance to finish their beginner titles (which require 2 runs under 2 different judges). To that end, she has contacted Diane Devison who is a good friend of hers to come for one day to judge the 2nd set of runs. She is a CKC judge and is applying to AHBA for approval as a judge. Both Sue and Diane are willing to waive their judging fees for the trial in order to make this a feasible financial step. The trial committee will ensure costs are recuperated. Most of the costs for her flight will be covered by the extra $$ from the Instinct testing in June. Approved by the board.

24.. Clare Park volunteered to organize and chair a Membership Committee in order to actively solicit new members for the club. She will put together a "boiler plate" Invitation to Join e-mail that could be used by representatives from all the zones to send out to Aussie people in their zone who are not yet members.

25.. Jane McNee offered to be Obedience Chairperson for the 2008 Nationals.

26.. Cathy Bishop asked for permission to hold a booster in conformation and obedience at the Lloydminster Dog Club show. Approved by the board.

28.. Cathy Bishop made a motion that that we send a post to the general cnasa membership asking if anyone is interested in being Chairperson for a Nationals committee held east of the Manitoba border. Seconded by Jane McNee. Motion passed.

29.. Clare Park researched numerous facilities in Ontario for potential sites for 2008 Nationals. The most promising sites are in association with the Wine Country show or the London Canine Association. She offered to be the Conformation Chairperson.

30.. Jane McNee send the following letter to the membership:

Following the success of the inaugural CNASA Nationals held recently in Camrose, AB, your Board has been doing the preliminary groundwork for a follow-up success in Eastern Canada in late 2008.

To date we have a potential site located, a general time-frame, a Conformation Sub-Chair and an Obedience Sub-Chair.

At this point we would like to ask the membership to come forward and indicate

their willingness to participate in making this event a complete success. We

are looking for motivated individuals to take on such important responsibilities

as Agility Sub-Chair, Herding Sub-Chair and Fundraising.

Furthermore we are seeking that one important individual to oversee this event,

guiding a dedicated group towards completion; a Nationals Chairperson.

We ask that any and all interested individuals contact your Board immediately or

comment on this list with particular questions or comments. As time is rather

limited, we ask that you contact us within the next 5-7 days.

Together we can make this an event to be proud of!

Sincerely,

Jane McNee

Quebec Director/CNASA

The only responses to this letter were from Helen Ferguson offering to help with (but not chair) agility and Bev Hurst to help with herding. Due to the lack of response, it was elected to hold a "scaled-back" nationals and offer only Conformation and Obedience.

31.. Correspondence forwarded by Kathy Kimmel:

Good Morning,

I am writing on behalf of the Canadian Agility Team. This team will represent

the Canadian Kennel Club at the 2007 FCI World Championship in Hamar, this

September 28-30, 2007. For more information visit ww.canadianagilityteam.com.

The Canadian Kennel Club has so many diverse groups, members and people who may wish to help but don't know much about our endeavor. I would like to ask if you would forward our request to your club executive and membership - some may be able to help. We are looking for Canadian Company sponsorships, fundraiser events, and monetary donations - club or individual members.

We are approaching CKC clubs and their membership for support to help the team as a whole for the travel abroad. We will be representing Canada in the largest organized dog agility event in the world for the past 5 years.

This year travel to Hamar, Norway will cost the team member and their canine

partner approximately $5,000.00 each for uniforms, hotel, meals, air / road

transportation, dog and human. Each of the team members are Canadian Kennel

Club members, actively participate in CKC events and are each involved in

fundraising for the team. But we need your help!

I would like to introduce the team comprised of handlers and dogs from across

Canada.

32.. Information on holding a specialty in association with the London club:

In response to your email, for Specialties we have a sliding

scale.

1 to 25 entries we pay a rebate of $7.00 per dog.

26 to 50 entries we pay a rebate of $10.00 per dog.

51+ entries we pay a rebate of $12.00 per dog.

We also have a $3.00 per dog charge for using our judge.

Colmar Show Service is our show service and they will add you

to our Premium List and put your Specialty in our catalogue.

We collect all the entry fees and do all the bookwork with the

CKC.

If you have Sweepstakes, I write the cheques out for however

you decide to divide the money.

We also have a stand alone Specialty where you rent the ring from

us for $50.00.

You get your own judge, ring steward, show service, print your own Premium List and Catalogue, collect your own entry fees, pay your own CKC fees, do your own Sweepstakes money, get your own ribbons, and pay all your own expenses for everyone and everything. We have nothing to do with your Specialty other than to provide space. Some clubs prefer this. Would you be offering Junior Handling?

Please let us know your preference for the Specialty.

Thank you for considering us for your Specialty.

Carol McGroganDalji

With the poor response from the membership, it makes the most sense to go ahead with the first option. The nationals will likely not make money but will not lose money either.
