SC 14.4.9VICAR GENERAL’S REPORT

Brian presented a written report with the addition of the following announcement:

Brian announced he had received the resignation of Reverend Jenny Dawson, Hawke’s Bay Regional Dean. Her departure is subject to discussions with the Bishop-Elect but has indicated her willingness to stay on until October. Her decision to resignis based on enabling her to live full-time with her husband in the Wellington region.

Resolved:

“It was agreed to accept the Vicar General’s Report”.

SC 14.4.10portfolio report back

  1. General Synod– Jo Crosse

Jo gave a summary of General Synod/te Hinota te Whanui 2014, with particular emphasis on the discussions and outcome relating to Motion 30.

It was agreed a letter of thanks from the Vicar General be sent to Tame Tui’ifua and Sarah Crosse for their participation as Waiapu’s youth representatives at GSTHTW 2014.

  1. Cathedral – Alison Thomson

Alison reported on an increase in Cathedral bookings due to the closure of the Hastings Opera House.

  1. Social Justice and Care for Creation Issues – Ron Elder

Ron asked that his nomination be withdrawn as a possibleTikanga Pakeha representative on the Social Justice Commission, in favour of Jolyon White who Ron believesis a more suitable candidate for the position.

Resolved:

  1. “That this Standing Committee seeks the cooperation of the Diocesan Registrar and the CEO of Anglican Care in completing the survey of wage/salary rates with the results to be reported back to Standing Committee for further consideration in relation to the Living Wage proposal.”
  1. “That this Standing Committee seek a formal engagement with the WBDT regarding its current review of policy.”
  1. Communication – Brian Watkins

Three members of the Communications sub-committee recently met primarily to discuss how best to begin the long overdue task of updating the Waiapu.com website.

Peter O’Brien, Rhondda Poonand team (Anglican Care Waiapu Ltd), have expressed a willingness to help manage and oversee the re-design and production of the new Diocesan website in tandem with their planned work on their own website.

Resolved:

“That Standing Committee, on behalf of the Diocese, request co-operation and assistance from WASSTB to manage and oversee the design and production of a new Diocesan website, at a charge to be agreed within the restraints of our allocated budget. Such an arrangement would enable us to work closely in tandem with WASSTB and their design agency on creating two new websites that have shared design, cross referencing and functionality that is both user friendly and simple for designated staff to keep regularly updated.”

SC 14.4.11FINANCE ADVISORY SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT

Income and Expenditure Accounts for the period 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014 were presented.

It was reported, as from the 4th May a 1.4% increase in clergy stipends had taken place.

Resolved:

“It was agreed that stipends should be included in the strategic plan discussions.”

SC 14.4.12STRATEGIC PLANNING – ERICE FAIRBROTHER

The first of the strategic planning meetings of diocesan ministry leaders, including Anglican Care Ltd and the Waiapu Board of Diocesan Trustees recently took place. The draft work is therefore in progress. A special meeting in March 2015 is scheduled where it is hoped the final copy will be adopted.

Due to a lack of clergy representatives on the Strategic Planning Steering Group, Erice requested that Reverend Jo Crosse be added.

Resolved:

“It was agreed that the Reverend Jo Crosse be added onto the Strategic Planning Steering Group.”

SC 14.4.13ADDITIONAL MATTERS

Motion 30 Working Group

A working group will be established to develop frameworks to assist with progress and offer direction as to how best we take positive steps at General Synod/te Hinota Whanui 2016.

The group will facilitate doctrinal, liturgical, legal, cultural, educational and communication work amongst a variety of smaller task groups, and it will report to every General Synod Standing Committee meeting to ensure progress continues.

It was agreed, it is important that an LGBT representative be a member of that working group. Therefore a letter of request to GSSC signed by the Vicar General and the Chair of the Diocesan Standing Committee, is to be sent requesting that a representative/s from the LGBT community be includedas a member on the working group.

Diocesan Standing Committee

In order to ensure the smooth and efficient running of future Diocesan Standing Committee meetings the Chairman and Registrar will meet prior to future meetings to prioritize business.

SC 14.4.14ELECTORAL COLLEGE ARRANGEMENTS COMMITTEE REPORT

The DVD interview questions to be asked at each candidate’s interview were tabled.

At the request of Bishop Victoria, the Electoral College is to take place in the church at St Luke’s, Havelock North on the 14/15th June.

Standing Committee affirmed the Registrar’s hard work on the Electoral College Planning Committee, however expressed their disappointment, given the uncomfortable pews, that the churchwill be used.

The meeting closed at 2.40pm.
