Minutes from AEPC WG Prevention Business Meeting 23.05.2014
Opening of the Business Meeting.
Presentation of activities last year: After the business meeting in London 2013, in December 2013 there was a course on echocardiography in Munich organized by the Ipokrates foundation with the participation of several US-experts like Norm Silverman etc. A session in this course was dedicated also to acquired heart disease like Kawasaki-Disease or Myocarditis. This course was attended by over 40 pediatric cardiologists. Besides the well-known outstanding specimen-presentations by Dr. Sanders from Boston Children`s, also a lively discussion regarding the treatment of acquired heart disease aroused.
In February 2014, a business meeting of the WG in Munich was organized. There, the IMT statement draft was discussed extensively and the WG decided to head for the next step. In this procedure, the manuscript was written by Robert Dalla Pozza and then presented to 3 reviewers . After that, the manuscript was sent to the AEPC council for approval in June 2014.
Regarding the preparticipation screening for athletes, there is ongoing activity in Graz led by Peter Fritsch who is currently preparing the documentation.
Topics to propose for the next AEPC Meeting 2015 in Prag: The child as a cardiovascular patient, (session topic), including cardiovascular workup of children at high/intermediate risk, biomarker application for cardiovascular patients. Other topics to propose for the next meeting: hypertension in childhood, recommendation on sport activity.
Report of the treasurer: actually 36 members of the WG, total balance of appr. 2400 €.
Proposal of the chairperson: pool data from several centers for the IMT measurements in children. 2 modalities: send a junior member to the various centers to acquire IMT loops and measure (maybe time consuming and expensive, but correct) or to send IMT clips to a central measurement institution. This topic has still to be decided about.
Finally, retirement of A. Petropoulos as a councillor due to end of term. Candidation of Vesna Herceg-Cavrak. She is a Consultant in Pediatric Cardiology, Chief of the Department of Cardiologyin the University Children’s Hospital Zagreb, Croatia. She is certified in GeneralPediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and in the Neonatology. She is also a lecturer in Pediatrics on the University of Applied Health Studies. The candidacy is supported by A. Petropoulos, R. Oberhoffer, D. Ehringer-Schtetitska and R. Dalla Pozza. So, V. Herceg-Cavrak is elected as a councellor.
