Prince George’s County Police

Lt. Marcus Lyers our area’s police liaison from District 2, along with Major Gay and their Captain were our last speakers of the evening.

The police offices discussed Community Policing - Community Service Area (CSA) program.

The CSA’s goal is to build a constructive relationship and partner with the community to solve community problems and issues before they become crime events.

The officers offered the following suggestions to prevent crime:

  • Upgrade your house and car alarm system, if the system is old.
  • Make sure you secure your residence when you leave.
  • Install adequate lighting around your home.
  • Look out your window in the middle of the night.
  • Find activities for the neighborhood kids to participate in. Bored children have a tendency to get in trouble.
  • Ask your neighbor to watch your house while you are out of town.

Lt. Lyers suggested that the Winterset community participate in a Home Security Survey.

Lt. Lyers also said that there is currently no legislation that prohibits the use of mini motor bikes. P.G. Officers can only issue tickets if the driver is 16 years of age or older. The mini motor bikes should not be driven on the public sidewalk, but they can be driven on the public street. The officers urged us to speak with the parents and try to reach a compromise.
