AFRICAN AMERICAN AWARENESS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

APPLICATION FORM

The African American Awareness Student Scholarship was established in 1994. Funds donated by alumni and others are deposited in the MSU Foundation for the purpose of making annual cash awards to undergraduate students attending Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The African American Awareness Student Scholarship is established for students attending MSU. Awards of $100 minimum will be announced by April 15 each year. Scholarships will be made available to recipients for use against next year's tuition/fees/books according to procedures outlined by the MSU Financial Aids Office. Applications for the award are due in the Cultural Diversity Program Office by April 1.

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

1. Be enrolled or anticipate attending Minnesota State University, Mankato.

2. Be a full-time student..

3. Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of fall semester preceding

application.

Graduate Assistants, MSU faculty or staff are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

The African American Awareness Student Scholarship was established in 1993 by MSU African American alumni. Funds donated by alumni and others are deposited in MSU Foundation account for the purpose of making annual cash awards to undergraduate students attending Minnesota State University, Mankato.

I. Criteria

The African American Awareness Student Scholarship is established for students attending MSU.

To be eligible for consideration to receive an award, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

A. Be enrolled or anticipate attending Minnesota State University, Mankato.

B. Be a full-time student.

C. Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of fall semester preceding application.

Graduate Assistants, MSU faculty or staff are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

II. Value

Scholarship recipients will be announced by April 15 each year. Funds will be made available to recipients for use against the following year’s tuition/fees/books in accordance with guidelines established by the MSU Financial Aids Office. The amount of the scholarship will be dependent on the balance available in the African American Awareness Student Scholarship account as of April 1 each year. Scholarships will be a minimum of $100.

III. Selection Committee

The committee for the selection of African American Awareness Student Scholarship recipients will meet by January 15 of each year to review and revise, as appropriate, these criteria.

IV. Procedure

Awards will be made according to the following procedure:

A. Recipients will be selected by the African American Awareness Student Scholarship selection committee. The committee members will be appointed by the Associate Vice President for Cultural Diversity.

B. A committee chair will be elected each year by committee members. The committee chair will be elected at the last selection committee meeting each spring semester to serve the following year.

C. Application forms will be available in the Cultural Diversity Program Office.

D. Completed applications will be due April l.

E. Scholarship recipients will be announced by April 15 of each year.
