BOARD MEETING MINUTES
May 23, 2013
Meeting was held at Veit in Rogers, MN. A conference call option was also available for those Board members who were not in attendance.
Curt called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM.
PRESENT:
Curt Hoffman, Maggie Mattacola, Don Chapdelaine, Jennefer Klennert, Matt Domski, Gary Bruns, Michael Reed, Brad Hanzal, Mark Rys, Matt Evans.
MINUTES:
Motion by Gary Bruns to approve the March 28, 2013 minutes with a Second by Curt Hoffman. No discussion or changes. Approved All Ayes.
Committee Updates
B.a. Collection & Distribution of Information – No meeting was held in April. Decision was made that the Collection & Distribution of Information Group will work together with the Communications and Chapter Succession Planning Group.
B.b. Communication & Chapter Succession Planning – Group has developed a work plan and are working through the process. This group will work with Collection & Distribution of Information to determine next steps. The two groups will meet jointly in June. Collection & Distribution of Information will be outward communication and Communication & Chapter Succession Planning will be inward communication.
B.c. Conference Planning – Speakers for each session are due from the coordinators by June 1. Discussion was held on Upcoming MPCA Landfill and Fire discussion. Tentative date will be November 19, 2013 in the pm for another training session. July 16 is the next upcoming seminar and tour atGreen Lights Recycling, Blaine, MN. A new registration program is being tested for the next session. Discussion was held on additional outreach to haulers.
B.d. Education & Training – Discussion was held on finding interested members that would like to assist with education and training. A SWOT analysis will be completed on the conference to determine additional segments that could be added. A survey is being put together on topics and training that can be sent to the SWANA Membership.
B.e. Membership & Young Professional Membership – The committee will meet with Matt Domski next week to discuss Young Professional membership. Discussion was held on upcoming networking events. A suggestion was made to have a networking event potentially at the Twins’ Legends Club.
B.f. Scholarship – Two applicants have applied for the scholarship which is due on May 31, 2013.
B.g. Seminars, Networking & Professional Development – The next tour will be Green Lights Recycling. A networking event is being coordinated with RAM.
Executive Director Update
Maggie Mattacola updated that the RAM offices will be relocated back to Rock-Tenn the end of June.
Young Professionals/Student Chapter
Matt Domski was invited to the Board meeting as the Young Professional member representative. Matt introduced himself and reiterated his commitment to being the Young Professional representative.
INTERNATIONAL BOARD UPDATE
Gary Bruns reported that the SWANA National has been approached by Waste & Recycling News for a potential partnership. 180 new members have joined SWANA based on a $32,000 per year investment in membership recruiting.
