Mini Triathlon (Adults) Sunday May 15th 2016

Sponsored by

Thank you for entering our sixth mini triathlon!

We hope you have a great day.

Please read these notes carefully.

Here are nearly all the details you need to know, including route information, safety precautions and the rules and regulations. Please read all the information so we all know what’s happening on the day and to ensure that everyone stays safe.

NB This information is subject to change and is in no way set in stone. Please attend the briefing to receive the updated information.

Timetable

9.15-10.45am Registration for all participants

9.15am Marshals’ briefing

10.45am Briefing for all adult participants (at the pool).

11.00am The first swimmers start.

12.0pm The pool will be open for general use.

1.30pm latest The event will ‘close’ and the marshals will depart from the course.

There will be an ‘awards’ ceremony either at the finish line or in the village hall, depending on the weather and where everyone ends up – to be announced on the day!

It will not be possible to give split times i.e you will just have one start time and an overall finish time after all three stages.

Official Referees: Mhairi Wear of Penrith Tri Club & Andy Robinson of Greystoke & District Sports Association

Personal Belongings

We recommend that you leave any bags etc with a friend or family member or in your locked car in the car park. If you leave belongings in the pool changing rooms space will be very limited and please note we cannot be held responsible for them and you leave them there at your own risk.

The Swimming Bit 10 lengths of Greystoke Pool (180m)

Please could you make sure you are ready to swim at least 20 minutes before your start time as you may have your time brought forward if we get ahead of schedule. The water is heated (approx 24’C) so normal swim suits should be adequate! Wetsuits optional. Front crawl or breaststroke only please.

Swimmers will start in groups of 4 or 5 every 6 minutes – please note there will be minimal lane markings in the pool.

Swimmers will start in the water (ie no diving) in the shallow end and will swim 10 lengths in total with a ‘2 lengths to go’ warning given.

Transition Area

The transition area will be on the playing field next to the pool and there will be bike racks for you to use.

There will be space available next to your bike in the transition area for a small box or bag (that you provide) for your bike helmet, shoes etc.

Bikes and belongings are left at your own risk.

No cycling in the transition area.

NB: Participants only in the transition area please – or you risk disqualification!

The Bike Bit Greystoke - Berrier Rd - Sportsman’s - Motherby - Greystoke

Cycling helmets that meet approved safety standards must be worn throughout the cycling stage and must be put on and fastened before you get on the bike and not removed until you have dismounted.

The bike route is on local roads which you will be sharing with other road users. Please take extra care on narrow stretches and corners and be courteous to all other road users as we would like to be able to hold this event again in the future! It is your responsibility to cycle safely and within the law. Please note that none of the roads will be closed and that the marshals cannot and will not stop traffic for you. ‘Drafting’ is against the rules – this is when a cyclist takes shelter immediately behind another competitor and does not overtake. You may be given a time penalty or disqualified if caught drafting! Please obey all marshals’ directions. The route will be signed at all relevant junctions.

It will hopefully be a warm and balmy day so please make sure you have a full water bottle on your bike and that you drink it.

The Running Bit Off road in the Grounds of Greystoke Castle

The run starts and finishes in the village so involves crossing and running along the roads for a short while before entering Greystoke Castle grounds. The route will be marked by white and red flags.

Please heed the marshals and take extra care.

Normal running shoes will be suitable for the route which ‘undulates’ on tarmac, rough tracks and some grass (although some would say it’s a long slog uphill then a fab run downhill to the finish!).

Food and Refreshments

All competitors will also be entitled to a free hot drink and piece of cake after completion of the run (because we’re nice like that). The pool cafe will be open as usual for hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. For a more hearty meal the Boot and Shoe pub in the village will be serving bar meals, or there’s Greystoke Cycle Cafe for delicious light lunches and afternoons teas (no parking – please walk or cycle from the village centre).

Parking, toilets etc

Parking is available in the Village Car Park. Please do not park down Church Road (the road that runs past the pool) as it will be part of the cycling route.

Toilets are available at the pool and in the village hall.

No littering at all please. We have been given permission to use private land and do not want to jeopardise our ability to do so in the future.

Photographs

Please let us know if you have any objection to your photograph being taken at the event. We may use photos in subsequent publicity for the pool in posters and on our website.

Your supporters

Please bring your friends and family along on the day as they can cheer you on and the pool and cafe facilities will be available for them to use. There is also a revamped childrens’ play area next to the pool to keep the children entertained.

If you have family or friends who would like to be involved but aren’t competing then perhaps they would like to help out? We need lots of marshals, time-keepers, cafe volunteers and general helpers. Please let Morna know.

Thanks

Last but not least we would like to thank the following for their generous support with this event:

M-Sport, Arragon’s Cycle Centre, Neville Howard of Greystoke Castle and all the marshals and volunteers who have given their time to enable this event to happen.
