Job title:Partnerships Fundraising Intern

Purpose of the job

Mind the mental health charity is looking for an enthusiastic individual to help support ourgrowing Partnership fundraising team. This exciting new internshipis an ideal opportunity for someone with an interest in developing a career in fundraising to be involved with Corporate fundraising, where you will gain key Charity of the Year (COTY) experience,as well as fundraising from Major donors, Trusts and Foundations. As an integral member of the Partnershipsteam, you will have responsibility for specific projects which will directly impact the success of Mind’s fundraising efforts.

Mind has recently secured a COTY partnership and thisinternship offers lots of opportunities to think creatively and come up with fundraising ideas to engage our partner

company’s staff. You will be a key member of the COTY steering group and in particular will be responsible for sourcing and organising volunteering days that are attractive to the company’s staff. Alongside this you will gain experience in research, writing fundraisingmaterial,organising events, fundraising administration andgain broad knowledge of fundraising practices.You will be working in a supportive environment at an exciting time in the team’s development.

The role is flexible and we are looking for someone who can work from our Stratford Office, East London for 3 days per week, for a minimum of three months. Although the post is unpaid, we can offer reimbursement of reasonable travel and lunch expenses.

Scope of the job

Mind’s Fundraising department consists of three fundraising units – Partnerships Fundraising, Appeals and Events Marketing and Fundraising Operations, overseen by our Fundraising Director.

The Partnerships team is responsible for raising money for Mind’s work from charitable trusts and foundations, the statutory sector, major donors and the corporate sector. Together the team raises approximately £2.5 million net income for Mind’s work.

The Partnerships fundraising team consists of a Head of Partnerships, a Senior Major Giving Fundraiser, a Senior Trusts and Statutory Fundraiser, a Senior Corporate Partnerships Officer, a Major Giving Officer, a Trusts & Statutory Fundraising Officer and a Corporate Fundraising Officer.

Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health services users, women, Black and Minority Ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men and bisexuals and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. The Partnerships Fundraising Assistant is expected to contribute to this aim.

Key Responsibilities

Administration:

  1. To be responsible forsourcing and coordinating volunteering days for the (Charity of the Year) company’s staff from Mind’s network.
  1. To assist the Corporate Fundraising Officer with administration for the corporate team, to include tasks such as answering enquiries from the public by telephone or email, booking venues and writing thank you letters.
  1. To be responsible for organising and servicing meetings, including writing minutes.
  1. To carry out mail merges and mailings as required.

Information management:

  1. To ensure that full and accurate records of all corporate contacts and donations are maintained on a database.
  1. To help maintain records of approaches to corporate contacts and their current status.
  1. To undertake research into the background and giving patterns/ criteria of companies, major donors and trusts as directed.

Finance administration and financial management:

  1. To ensure that all donations raised through the Charity of the Year partnership including payroll giving, sponsored events and staff fundraising are tracked and recorded on the database accurately.

Contact and Liaison:

  1. To deal with incoming phone calls and simple queries.
  1. To be responsible for fielding miscellaneous fundraising approaches to the correct person or team within the fundraising department, and issuing standard responses when it is agreed that the approach is not worth pursuing.
  1. To contribute effectively as part of the Partnerships team, as well as the Fundraising Department as a whole.
  1. To liaise with other Mind departments.

General:

1.To attend departmental and other meetings, as required.

2.To assist in organisation of events connected with the Partnerships team and the Charity of the Year partnership as required.

3.To attend training courses and sessions as agreed.

4.To attend and contribute to the supervision process.

  1. Occasionally the postholder will be asked to travel throughout England and Wales and to work out of hours when required.

Essential

  1. Experience of using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  1. Experience of using e-mail.
  1. Experience of using the Internet for research purposes.
  1. An understanding and acceptance of Mind’s Equal opportunity policy.
  1. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with others and work flexibly as part of a team.
  1. Ability to maintain efficient office procedures, particularly with regard to record keeping.
  1. Ability to prioritise and organise work.
  1. Word processing ability including ability to lay out reports, etc.
  1. Able to work alone from time to time, take messages, respond to people calling in at the office on an ad hoc basis.
  1. Willingness to attend training courses as necessary, both internal and external.
  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English, including drafting routine letters.

Desirable

  1. Experience of running mail merges.
  1. Experience of using databases.
  1. Knowledge and understanding of charity fundraising practices and processes.
  1. Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
  1. Direct or indirect experience of mental distress.
  1. Bachelor degree graduate or equivalent professional/academic qualifications.
