POST TITLE: Information, Advice & Guidance Adviser

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager and Board of Trustees

JOB PURPOSE

To provide a range of information, advice & guidance which meet the needs of the client group in accessing personal development, training and employment situations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1)Provision of quality individualised advice and guidance services

Interview each client, to identify their needs and develop individual action plans

Assist clients to choose appropriate support from our suite of services and those of our partners

Undertake monthly follow up meetings with clients to track progress.

Enable clients to use appropriate forms of assessment

Use values cards to enable clients to become more self-aware

Liaise with providers of employment & training opportunities

Enable clients to realistically consider self-employment

Operate effective referral procedures

To provide relevant vocational guidance and counselling

Keep up to date on new initiatives and information & disseminate as appropriate

Manage and supervise voluntary staff

2)Assistance with Job Search Skills

Provide assistance on one-to-one or small groups with job applications, C.V.s & interview skills

3)Development of outreach provision

Develop scope of Outreach.

Organise & attend marketing events and exhibitions to promote the service

Provide presentations to appropriate social and community groups to raise awareness of opportunities

Provide information, advice and guidance assistance on internal training courses

4)Development of information bank

Assist volunteers with developing and maintaining the information bank

Assist volunteers with developing and maintaining suitable classification/filing system

Obtain appropriate information and resources

Assist volunteers with developing with ensuring all information is kept up-to-date

Develop in-house resources to support the client group

Maintain a supportive environment for users

5) Other Duties

Liaise with staff to raise awareness of opportunities

Produce reports as necessary

Contributeinformation leaflets & web site content.

Supervision & training of volunteers working in Information, Advice & guidance

Assist with preparation for Quality Standards assessments

Any other duties as required by Manager

Experience of delivering careers and education advice and guidance to adults E

Experience in dealing with people from a variety of social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds E

Experience of Job search Skills D

Experience of working in the voluntary sector D

Technical Job Related Skills

Basic IT skills D

Familiarity with online Job Search software D

Ability to maintain administrative/diary systems E

Ability to classify and file learning and employment information D

Personal Job Related Skills

Highly developed Interpersonal skills E

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with clients E

Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills E

Ability to organise and prioritise own workload E

Able to work alone and as part of a team E

Education/Qualifications

Qualifications such as minimum NVQ Level 4 Advice and Guidance, or equivalent E

Education to degree level or equivalent D

Counselling qualification D

Other Requirements

Flexibility to work very occasional evenings and weekends D

Current driving licence and access to a vehicle D
