Instructor Qualifications and Responsibilities

All Continuing Education instructors must have at least 3 years in-field experience prior to teaching at Mildred Elley.

All Continuing Education instructors teaching hands-on coursework must hold a valid New York State massage therapy license.

To help ensure adequate enrollment, all workshops must be booked at least 3-months in advance. A $25 non-refundable booking fee is payable on the day that you schedule a workshop.

Upon accepting your workshop for booking, the Administration will assign three registration dates: the Registration Deadline, the Late Registration Deadline (where participants must pay a $15 surcharge per enrollment) and the Close of Registration.

Instructors are prohibited from selling merchandise or services to course participants.

Advertising

Mildred Elley will advertise your workshop on its website ( and permit online registration.

Mildred Elley will send out email blasts to students, massage therapy instructors and massage alumni to promote your workshop.

At its discretion, Mildred Elley may send out post cards to showcase course offerings to student alumni and NYS licensed Massage Therapists.

Mildred Elley may list all workshops on the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals event calendar.

At your request, Mildred Elley will email contacts provided by you of any upcoming workshops provided that contact information is immediately provided upon your request. Please understand that your contact information will become part of the Mildred Elley database.

Continuing Education

Mildred Elley is an approved provider for continuing education for New York State. CEU’s earned cannot be used for national certification licenses or as CEU credit in other states.

Massage Therapists from other states may enroll in courses offered through this program for education purposes only. While a certificate of completion will be awarded, units of CEU will not be awarded for those participants.

Discounts

Multiple Workshop Discount. When a participant registers for more than one continuing education workshop or multi-day workshop, the participant will receive a 15% discount on each class.Please note: Registration deadlines will be strictly enforced. Discounts do not apply to late registrations.

Alumni and Staff Discount. Graduates and current faculty of the Mildred Elley Massage Therapy programs, receive a 20% discount on each workshop.Please note: Registration deadlines will be strictly enforced. Discounts do not apply to late registrations.

Current Student Discount. As a special promotion, students currently enrolled in a Mildred Elley Massage Therapy program may attend all workshops for free.Please note: Current students will only be allowed to participate if workshop is full. Students will NOT receive any continuing education credit hours, however workshop time can be used as make-up work time. Any student who wishes to participate and receive make-up hours must notify their instructor and the program coordinator at least two days prior to the start of class, actively participate, and write a 2-3 page paper.

Submission

Mildred Elley provides New York State Licensed Massage Therapy one and two day seminars in Albany, NY. Since our instructors are independent contractors, serving as an instructor for a course will likely not interfere with other employment. Should you care to serve as an instructor, the following items must be submitted:

  1. Current registration and license (copies)
  2. Current resume
  3. Proposed course curriculum, including course outline, structure of learning modalities, timelines
  4. Course manual and/or handouts
  5. Proof of malpractice insurance (copy)
  6. W9 tax form (signed)
  7. A signed copy of this document (Continuing Education Workshop Instructor Guidelines)
  8. Completed workshop application form

Workshop information

Mildred Elley will print all certificates for instructor distribution at the end of the workshop.

Mildred Elley will provide a workshop roster. Unless alternate arrangements are agreed to in writing by Mildred Elley, only those students appearing on the roster may participate in the workshop.

Should any registrant self-identify as having special needs prior to the beginning of any course, Mildred Elley will inform the instructor ahead of time to ensure they are accommodated properly.

Mildred Elley will provide you and workshop participants with massage tables, folding chairs, classroom tables, whiteboard, whiteboard markers and CD player. Television, DVD player, and/or projectors may be available upon request. All equipment requests must be made at least two weeks in advance.

Any instructor teaching workshops for the first time must contact the Program Coordinator for an interview, completion of paperwork, and a facilities tour. The Program Coordinator, at her discretion, may require you to deliver a mini lesson no longer than 15 minutes in length to assess your teaching capabilities. Cancellations

Instructors may choose to cancel workshop after the Close of Registration if and only if there are 5 or less participants enrolled in the course.

Instructors who seek to cancel workshop due to illness must notify Mildred Elley in writing via email to as soon as possible and/or furnish a doctor’s note. Failure to provide Mildred Elley with a doctor’s note will result in an Unauthorized Instructor Absence (defined below).

In the event that an Instructor cancels a workshop for any reasons other than low enrollment at the Close of Registration date or physician-documented illness, such cancellation will result in an Unauthorized Instructor Absence. In the event of an Unauthorized Instructor Absence, the instructor will tender $150 to Mildred Elley within 7 days of the request.
