“Charming, bewitching” – Evening Standard

Miel de Botton releases ‘Dazzle Me Diamond’, the third single to be taken from her debut album ‘Magnetic’. Written by Miel and produced by Andy Wright (Simply Red, Eurythmics, Jeff Beck, Simple Minds) ‘Dazzle Me Diamond’ is a song of hope, as Miel explains:

“I had been asked to perform at a Sotheby’s diamond auction event taking place in the Alps and decided to write a song for this occasion. I looked at my engagement ring and thought of the hope and happiness that was symbolised by the ring and, in particular, the diamond with its sparkle and light. The song is deeply personal and emotional….wishing and hoping that the powerful diamond might give, once again, the happiness of younger days.”

The song’s symbolism of strength and survival is united with a beautiful, pulsating soundscape to create an uplifting and hypnotic celebration of hope and faith. Having already scored a club chart hit (no.9 in the Music Week Club Chart) with Manhattan Clique’s remix of the album's title track, Miel recently celebrated a return to these charts with their remix of ‘Dazzle Me Diamond’ (no.12), something that truly delighted her “It is a thrill to have a club hit with my songs, I love to dance and feel like a dance diva as a result of this!”

The last year has been an extraordinary and wonderful time for Miel. Having endured some difficult times in her family life, and searching for fulfilment, Miel took a giant step into the unknown and embarked on a music career. Her debut album ‘Magnetic’, recorded in both English and French and produced by Andy Wright, is a musical autobiography that includes the songs of her early childhood growing up in Switzerland as well as self-penned songs inspired by her own life in England.

The year began with an album launch in the Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room, featuring Miel and her band, a string quartet, Rambert dancers and an immersive light show. Intimate, sold-out concerts at Crazy Coqs, The Pheasantry and Dean St Jazz Club saw Miel flourishing in the spotlight. Supporting both John Barrowman and Rhydian Roberts on their UK tours gave Miel and her band the opportunity to perform for much larger audiences around the country, an experience that she embraced: “What a privilege to tour with such talented artists! And what a fantastic experience to perform in front of such large audiences who were so warm and receptive.”

Looking back, Miel describes the past twelve months as “a truly magical, incredible year where dreams have come true and all the hard work really has paid off and has turned into joy.” As well as fulfilling her own dreams, Miel’s generous spirit sees her supporting other artists and causes. Close to her heart is the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus, a joint Israeli-Palestinian choir who, through music and dialogue, work together for peace in their community and beyond. Miel sang with the choir last November at The Aldwych Theatre and continues to support them. In November, in recognition of her philanthropic work, Miel received an honorary PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, whose areas of research include alternative energy sources, treatments for cancer and solutions to world hunger. ‘Magnetic’ includes ‘Birds Without Borders’, a song written by Miel for the RSPB’s campaign of the same name, which aims to tackle the problem of birds being killed illegally each year as they migrate across the Mediterranean.

Now, with the release of ‘Dazzle Me Diamond’, its accompanying video and a run of live performances, Miel continues to fulfil her dreams. On Thursday February 4th Miel will be talking about the therapeutic qualities of music on Eamonn Holmes’ Sky Sunrise TV programme. Miel will also be following in the footsteps of Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Boris Johnson and Nick Moran as the interviewee on London Live’s flagship programme the ‘Headline Interview’.
