Project Details

Problem definition

You should cover these points

·  Write here a brief abstract about your project idea.

·  Describe the current issue(s) or problem(s) that your team intends to solve.

·  It should be to the point with supported claims.

·  Max 2 paragraphs each of 5 lines.

Problem Solution

You should cover these points

·  How are you going to solve the problem?

·  What would improve the current issues or problems?

·  Show how your proposed solution is innovative?

·  Project use-case: Tell us what it is and what it does. NOT HOW IT WORKS (in a non-technical approach)

Show in a simple why what is the expected input(s) from user and what should be expected output(s).

MIE tracks:

MIE 2017 Tracks are:

1- Internet of Things (IOT) 2– Robotics 3– Automotive 4- Electronics and Communications 5– Big data 6– Energy.

In Case your project does not match any of those categories, choose General Track.

Project Track: ______

Technical Approach

1-  Project's Output description: Feature List

Define clearly supported features and functionalities – of the project/prototype that you would present in MIE Finals in technical approach.

It is required to show the engineering approach used to design and implement the feature.

# / Feature Name / Brief Description
1 / Feature 1 / State briefly feature 1
2 / Feature 2 / State briefly feature 2
3 / Feature 3 / State briefly feature 3
4 / Feature 4 / State briefly feature 4

2-  Block Diagrams

Describe your project with a set of block diagrams. The set of diagrams need to be high-level in the sense that

·  An engineer not familiar with your project can get a basic understanding just by studying your diagrams.

·  On the other hand, they should show enough detail so that the readers can easily understand what exactly you are designing.

·  In case the project depends on a certain algorithm. Include description for your algorithm in brief.

3-  Software/ Hardware Development Tools and Components

You should cover these points

·  Please itemize needed MAIN components (includes both software/hardware, IDE/SDKtools to develop the project).

·  Why did you choose it?

·  The price and source of each item.

Component / Usage/justification / Price / Store / Datasheet

4-  Design and Implementation

·  What are courses/knowledge gain you need before starting project?

·  What is the expected development effort? Modules/Components/Features that team is developing from scratch, Hardware needs software bring up, PCP and circuit design.
Youdo not have to build your system from scratch.

·  What is the project start point? What is the expected integration/porting effort? Hardware components Modules/Components that existing in market and their output is combatable with the high level system design. Software libraries, modules components developed by a third party and needs integrating it into project (that will require understand interfaces and do some configurations and customizations)
The team effort is mainly bring up these components with proper configuration and integrating them in the project without modification in the core functionality.

·  What are expected challenges you are facing in the project?

·  What is the current implementation status? What are components functionally work alone? What is the progress status in other parts?

5-  Master Project Time Plan

What are the steps that your team is taking in order to get the prototype done? Show phases and time frames allocated for this goal.

·  Make a clear Gantt chart concentrating on the major milestones of the project till MIE Finals on EED showing your current status.

·  It is preferred to show your plan from Feb 2017 till Aug 2017 (MIE finals) in terms of sprints each of 2-3 weeks.

·  What is the current development done at the date of submitting the project overview document? Is it going with your master time plan? Justify.

Image size should fit the A4 page. You may split the image to many to keep it clear in project overview.

Business Model (Market and Competition)

1-  Market analysis

In this analysis, you need to cover the below:

·  The overall market

·  Market segments

# / Market Segment / Product features

·  Target market and customers

·  Customer needs& Item metrics

# / Customer need / Metrics / Priority

2-  Competitor analysis

In this analysis, you need to define:

·  Major competitors

·  Key competitive capabilities

·  Key competitive weaknesses

·  Competitive edge

# / Competitors / Capabilities / Weakness / Competitive Edge

3-  Financial Analysis

During your financial analysis you need to write about:

1-  Development cost

Write here all expected cost you will need until concluding the specs and define product high level design, low level design and reach the first working prototype,

·  Tools, components and licenses. (consider spare parts)

·  Design cost (expected design hours * hour rate)

·  Testing tools and equipment.

·  Marketing, customer survey analysis.

Note: This phase focuses only on the R&D cost. The prototype manufacturing on mass production level is not considered in this phase.

2-  Fund raising:

The source and amount of fund for the project required to cover the development phase.

Project Photos/Screenshots

Take photos/screenshots for your project at its current status. (Code samples, GUI screenshots, PCBs, components connects on boards).

Image size should fit the A4 page showing your work clearly.

You may split the image to many to keep it clear in project overview.

List all references you use in developing your project standards, journals, papers, etc.
