Counselor’s Connection

9/25/17

Seniors: You should be visiting colleges and narrowing down your choices. If you don’t know what you want to do, let’s do an interest inventory. You should be signing up to take another ACT and doing some practice tests. I can give you a practice test to work on or you can go to the ACT website They have practice questions as well.

All of you should be thinking about life after high school. Community college, University, tech school, military and on the job training are all great things to consider. Check out and set up your profile. Compare colleges, majors and careers and request transcripts to be sent to colleges. Also check out and for scholarships. They have many scholarships and not all of them are for seniors only.

Parents: Please talk with your students about what they want to do after high school, college, military, tech school etc. Part of that talk should include the cost and a goal for how to pay for post high school training or college.

Students: The next ACT is set for October 28th. The deadline to sign up is September 22nd without a late fee. The test costs $46.00. JOM will reimburse Native American students, $30.00 one time their junior year and one time their senior year. Students on Free/Reduce Lunch may have a fee waiver one time per year for both their junior and senior years. The state of Oklahoma paid for all juniors to take the ACT in March. Therefore, NHS will no longer reimburse students for other ACT test dates. It is very important to take the ACT at least once prior to the start of the senior year. It is a good idea to take the test towards the end of the sophomore year, as practice for the real test, especially if your student suffers from test anxiety. If you do not have an ID please obtain one ASAP or let me know so I can make you an ID letter.

Students can take practice tests at and Another free ACT prep is There are interactive games and this site can also help you with nursing exams, tech school entrance exams and assist with STEM courses.
