MicroPlanet Technology Corp – Appointment of new director

MicroPlanet Technology Corp. developer of point of consumption voltage regulators that maximize the efficiency of electrical power grids, announced the appointment of Ms. Sarah Raiss as a member of the company's board of directors. Sarah Raiss is currently Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services, responsible for human resources, information systems, aviation and corporate services, for TransCanada. Prior to her position with TransCanada, Sarah was President of S.E. Raiss Group, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in strategy, culture change and merger integration.
Ms. Raiss has been named on Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 list for the last two consecutive years. The listing, compiled by Women's Executive Network, recognizes CEOs, senior executives, corporate directors and public sector leaders who are proven achievers in a variety of fields. Ms. Raiss was also part of the inaugural list announced in November 2003. Ms. Raiss holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Math and a Masters of Business Administration in Strategic Marketing and Organization Behavior from the University of Michigan.
In connection with Ms. Raiss' appointment, Darrell Peterson has stepped down as a member of the board of directors. Mr. Peterson remains corporate secretary for the company.
MicroPlanet Chief Executive Officer, Brian Reidy, said "I am thrilled to have Sarah accept the position of a director. Her appointment, along with the recent hirings of Mike Burns as Chief Business Development officer and Stephen Mihalick as Vice President, Manufacturing, round out our already strong team."
Prior to joining MicroPlanet, Mike Burns served as a business development manager of Itron, Inc., which designs, manufactures, markets, installs and services systems and fixed communication networks for automatic and electronic meter reading. Prior to the Itron acquisition of Schlumberger Electricity Metering business, Mike held numerous positions within Schlumberger's sales and marketing team. In his role as client services manager, Mike was named as Salesman of the Year for the company's Commercial & Industrial Metering Products Business in 2001.
Steve Mihalick comes to MicroPlanet with more than 25 years of expertise in all aspects of manufacturing and operations, including manufacturing processes, LEAN initiatives that reduce non-value added activities, visual control metrics and new product introduction. Prior to joining MicroPlanet, Steve worked as a manufacturing and quality consultant since 2001 where he assisted companies in process design, process reengineering and business metric generation.
