MicorStick and MobilePower: Full flexibility during battery-powered welding

Award-winning Lorch solution demonstrates its unique advantages when used for applications in the real world

Infinite mobility: Lorch welding technology has revolutionised the field of mobile welding by producing a design that is centred around two standalone components – the power source and the battery pack. Visitors attending Euroblech 2014 will be given an opportunity to put this one-of-a kind solution through its paces by performing sample welding operations at Lorch's booth and experience for themselves why the product's limitless versatility was awarded with the "Federal Prize 2014 for Outstanding Innovative Craftmanship" by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

"Nothing less than ingenious", was the conclusion of the first person taking Lorch's new mobile welding solution for a spin. Lorch devised a concept hinged on two components – welding power source and battery pack – to achieve a maximum degree of flexibility. The solution's supreme versatility makes it possible to operate the MicorStick 160 on 230 V mains power, a generator or - in the Accu-ready version - the MobilePower 1 battery pack, allowing welders to work even in the most remote locations. The solution's principal feature - isolating the stationary from the mobile power source - has proven to be especially useful in day-to-day applications.

Weighing in at a mere 4.9 kilograms, the MicorStick 160 is lighter than most other electrode welding machines and, at the same time, boasts an exceptionally sturdy design that makes it the ideal solution for the toughest jobs in the workshop and on site. Guaranteed to survive falls from heights of up to 80 cm (applicable standards call for only 25 centimetres), the machine has established a record in its class. The MicorStick 160 provides 100 per cent conformity with the latest connection standard and can be operated without restrictions on all public mains networks.

Patented MICOR technology provides for superior welding characteristics

A first for a single-phase electrode welding machine, the built-in MICOR inverter technology acts like a turbocharger on a car engine and allows the MicorStick to activate significantly higher voltage reserves and offset voltage fluctuations between -40 and +15 per cent with perfect ease. MICOR technology even allows welders to perform challenging CEL electrode welding operations – crucial, for instance, in pipeline construction – and to weld effortlessly even if connected to long lines of up to 200 metres. Superior ease of use (switch on, select process/type of electrode, adjust welding current) and state-of-the-art performance features guarantee perfect welding characteristics. These features include the Anti-Stick system, which prevents the electrode from sticking, the automatic Hotstart feature, which provides for absolutely perfect ignition characteristics, and automatic Arc-Force regulation, which supports the welding process by delivering increased arc stability and optimised metal transfer. What is more, the StableArc feature provides added directional stability, reduces arc blow and increases dynamics during mains operation by applying systematic frequency pulsing.

A separate battery guarantees infinite mobility and flexibility
Lorch made the deliberate decision to opt for a separate battery unit after careful consideration and extensive customer surveys. In addition to allowing for significantly increased versatility across a wide range of applications – the total weight is distributed over two components, making the system much easier to transport – the two-component concept offers numerous additional advantages. One example of these added benefits is the battery pack, which not only offers outstanding battery life thanks to a capacity of 600 Wh but can also be daisy-chained to deliver even more power. In addition, battery packs can be connected to different MicorStick welding machines or easily rented from a Lorch dealer if renting is the more convenient option. This level of flexibility allows customers to customise the components perfectly to their specific needs. Customers can also choose to purchase the MicorStick 160 Accu-ready as a base investment and add mobile components as they need them at a later time. Complementing the welder's gear with useful accessories such as a selection of carrying systems, Lorch allows welders to achieve the best results possible.

Euroblech 2014 affords visitors an up close and personal look of today's possibilities in mobile welding and the innovative and practically oriented solution that Lorch has in store for them. Lorch Schweißtechnik is setting up a test station at their booth in Hall 13, E69/70 to allow visitors to experience mobile welding first hand. Lorch Schweißtechnik GmbH was fortunate enough to receive not one, but two renowned awards for their solution already. Lorch received the "Federal Prize 2014 for Outstanding Innovative Craftmanship" at the International Craft Trades Fair in Munich, an award that is bestowed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Besting several well-established competitors, MicorStick 160 Accu-ready ranked first place as the best "forming, joining and separation technology" product in a reader survey taken out by the trade magazine M&T Metallhandwerk.
