PROFESSIONal and research experience

Ph.D. Candidate:Department of Forestry, University of Missouri-Columbia(08/15/03 – Present).

I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Forestry (Advisor: Dr. Richard Guyette) while working full-time as a faculty Research Associate. My Ph.D. research involves assessing the fire environment of a large Midwest region and understanding the conditions of increased fire risk. I have overseen one of the most spatially extensive fuels data collections in the eastern U.S., collated and analyzed fire records from multiple states and government agencies, and conducted experiments towards understanding and modeling spatio-temporal changes in fuel loading, fuel moisture contents, and ignition patterns. Completed coursework December 2007, projected graduation, December 2008.

Research Associate:Department of Forestry, University of Missouri-Columbia (08/07 – Present)

Responsible for operations of the Missouri Tree-Ring Laboratory withwide breadth of tree-ring research projects including: fire ecology, paleoclimatology, forest growth, and archeology. Conducted fieldwork and established research sites in 17 statesincluding Charles Russell Wildlife Refuge and Lubrecht Experimental Forest, MT. Supervised senior lab personnel, technicians, graduate and undergraduate students, volunteers, and summer interns.Presented multiple papers and seminars both nationally and internationally. Co-authored or drafted numerous scientific and popular publications and grants totaling over $1 million dollars awarded in 2005, 2006.

Senior Research Specialist: Department of Forestry, University of Missouri-Columbia (06/01-08/07)

Assisted in initiating several new research projects and expanding the research program of the Missouri Tree-Ring Laboratory. Presented multiple papers and projects at conferences and meetings both nationally and internationally. Received dendrochronology training from Dr. Richard Guyette (U of Mo), coursework at the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research-Univ. of Arizona, and professional experience.
