Job Title: Community Chaplain

Status: Part-time

Salary: $15,000.00 per annum, 20 hrs. per week

Department: Pastoral Staff

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Date of Employment: September 15, 2013 with flexibility for the right candidate

SUMMARY: This is an ideal position for anyone looking to share their gifts for spiritual companioning in a progressive and inclusive church. We are creating a position for a chaplain to train and support our volunteer congregational care team and prayer partners, and who will become a trusted pastoral presence within the communities we serve. A key part of this role is to manage the church’s pastoral care needs with professionalism, wisdom and sensitivity. We also hope that our chaplain will be a gifted spiritual director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Field pastoral care requests and needs; Mentor, train and support our Congregational Care Ministry Team; Provide Sunday care support around services; Staff liaison for Holy Union, marriage, funeral, and baptism requests; Offer Spiritual Direction as capacities allow, including spiritual retreats and sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional vocational chaplaincy or pastoral training and experience - Required
  • Ordained and licensed clergyperson or equivalent professional qualifications and training – Required
  • Excellent spiritual discernment, listening skills and pastoral gifts – Required
  • Ability to mentor, train, supervise and develop volunteer care ministers – Required
  • A commitment to self-care and healthy professional boundaries– Required
  • Ability to support and partner with other Staff or counseling professionals when circles of care or interventions are necessary. - Required
  • Training and experience in spiritual direction or companioning –Desired
  • A heart for working with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Questioning, and Affirming Heterosexual people, including our families, children and wider networks - Essential

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related field; Master of Divinity preferred

Documented CPE units

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years of professional chaplaincy or pastoral experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Driver’s License and Car

Ability to sustain emotionally stressful situations

Flexible schedule as required, primarily Sun-Thurs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: MCCGSL is a not-for-profit, inclusive faith organization and 501(c)3 entity with a mission for social engagement, human rights advocacy and spiritual development.
