May 18th
Sag Harbor, NY
The honor of our presence has been requested! Event organizers have asked if t he METRO PHC would be interested in staffing a rest stop at the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon in Sag Harbor on Sunday, May 18. How could we say no to saving babies?
Our checkpoint will be located at the North Haven Village Hall, as it’s been for the past 13 years. According to a MOD spokesperson, they always get lots of positive feedback about us. It seems that the walkers enjoy the decorations and spirit at our rest stop. In fact, there have been cases when walkers have liked our rest stop so much, they just stayed.
Volunteers should plan on meeting at the King Kullen Supermarket in
Bridgehampton (same place where we meet for road clean-ups) at 8 AM.
Yes, 8AM. We’ll wipe the sleep from our eyes, grab a cup of coffee and proceed to the check point site to set up the decorations (Club members are encouraged to bring tropical decorations, we could really use them!), stock the tables with drinks & snacks that will be provided by MOD and get ready to cheer for the walkers. The event should be over by 11. Email Joe Lombardi at to RSVP.

Jimmy Buffett to Play at the
Newport Folk Festival
Making his debut at the Newport Folk Festival, Jimmy Buffett will honor his musical heritage by playing at Fort Adams State Park on Sunday, August 3rd. Jimmy will be accompanied by his longtime pal, Mac McAnally.
“I threatened to do Newport before I was gone, and I seriously want to honor the heritage of the festival,” Buffett says. “I came up as a folk singer. I’ve always loved the idea of being a balladeer. You know, I might do Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Canadian Railroad Trilogy.’ I am not going to do a Parrothead show.”
Any Metro PHs wishing to make a summer road trip should call 877-655-4TIX or go to ticketing.festivalnetwork.com

Thinkin’ back to Alabama where a much younger version of me
I stepped up to the microphone and sang about my first palm tree
Half an hour later held that first 45 in my hand
From a sailor to a singer, a life I really never had planned
But I’m still makin’ records
I still tour every year
I can still be a landshark, every now and then
Hey, I’m still here.
Yea, I’m still making records
I’m still writing songs
Still see ya smilin’ from these front row seats to that crazy ass lawn.

“We’re Still Here”
On March 8th, Rich and I had the pleasure of embarking on a “Trip Around the Sun” with the Atlanta Parrot Head Club. We always find the need to justify our trips, so we made this one for my ___th Birthday (Happy Birthday to you too Bosco)!!! This cruise aboard the Carnival Triumph was the 10th anniversary of this event, which I might add, raised over $56,000 for Breast Cancer research!!! Kudos to them!
The party started at the Days Inn on 3/7. Sadly Rich and I could not attend the pre-cruise craziness, however, during the next few days we were absolutely entertained by a “Welcome Aboard Rendezvous, where we registered as “METROS”, we watched a Pub Crawl where 459 parrot heads from all over the country went to every bar on board this huge vessel much to the surprise of the bar tenders!!! There was also a “Parrot head Pool Invasion”, a “Tin Cup Chalice 10th Anniversary Party”, music by various bands that came along for the ride with the Atlanta Club, a poker tournament, a toga party (this was not to be missed), a junkanoo parade, a “Mallory Square Sunset Party”, a Sunrise Party and Musical Jam, a Songwriters Showcase and a “Wonder Why We Ever Go Home Pajama Party”!!! Then to top it off, there was a “Party at the End of the Cruise” party at the Days Inn on 3/15 when we arrived in Miami.
Now we are sure that most of you have received emails about this cruise in the past. Year after year, Rich and I had pondered the question too long as to whether or not we should go. We decided to jump on it this time. Along with all of the Parrot head goings on, we also went to Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay!!!! The price was amazing and we had just the best time! We could not have asked for a more fun-filled trip … there was all the regular cruise activities, but also the Parrot head activities. Door decorating was like nothing we had ever seen. True creativity at work for sure!!! The whole entire trip was so organized and everyone was very well informed about everything. They even had a “Coconut Telegraph” location for bulletins, etc. I could go on and on, but I won’t bore you with too many more details. However ….
… the next time you get one of those emails, jump on it if you can!!! I understand they sell out as quickly as some concerts. And, wouldn’t it be fun for some Metros to go on this adventure?!?! Rich and I will definitely go again. Perhaps someday, the “Trip Around the Sun” will be exclusively for Parrot heads!!! A mini Meeting of the Minds if you will. If you haven’t received the emails in the past, send a note to Brent Jones: and ask to be put on the email list. Believe me, it is not something you want to miss!!!! If you would like to see some pictures, send me an email at:
