That's My Window onthe World

Here, There & Everywhere & maybe Jones Beach?

My Dear Fellow METRO PHC Members,

The overwhelming anticipation that Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will be announcing that there will be a concert at the Jones Beach Theater does not always come true. Jimmy for many reasons does not really enjoy playing there so he usually books the beach every other year. Time will tell if he stays true to his usual scheduling plan because this is a JB @ JB year in theory!

As you all know he has already booked several shows in the METRO area so there will be plenty of opportunities for all of you to see this year’s tour: "The Year Of Still Here". He may not appear at the beach but one thing is for sure, at each venue they will be advertising Margaritaville Shrimp and LandShark Lager. Also you can buy some overpriced t-shirts and other JB souvenirs. We all have extensive collections of items from each and every concert we have attended and I am very sure this practice will continue.

Yes, another Spring has sprung, another tour has begun, but what I am really looking forward to is the Summer of 2008 to begin! Nothing beats a day at the beach: sun, surf, sand, food and many ice cold drinks. Here there are no cares or concerns of where Jimmy will or will not be playing. Just add a few Buffett cds along with your beach chairs, blankets, towels and sunscreen and you are now in the real Margaritville. So, please sit back relax and enjoy each and every weekend of the summer.

Will he play Jones Beach or will he skip it for another year... it does not really matter once the Summer'08 officially begins.

Remember, summer is never long enough and time truly flies during this wonderful time of year. Start planning each and every weekend and try to create your very own Margaritaville each and every day because that is what this time of year is really all about!

Mahalo & please pass the sunscreen,

Al

MSG & AC SHOWS!
Now Yer Squawkin’!
It’s official! Two (of hopefully several) local shows have been announced. Jimmy will be playing Madison Square Garden on June 12th and Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on August 24th. An August show at Jones Beach is still unconfirmed, but looks promising. Details are being worked out. All concert news and updates will come through the Banana Wind and the Parrot Press as received. Once prices and dates are firmed up, Metro PHC club members will be able to send ticket requests, a check and a SASE to Tom Dalton along with a list of Metro activities that you have participated in during the past year or so. You still have time to acquire more concert “brownie” points by attending the beach/road clean-ups.
If any Metro Parrot Heads will be
Road tripping to any of the out of town
concerts, send an email to
. I will do my
best to hook you up with other Metros
heading the same way. /
SPRING MEMORIALBEACH CLEAN-UP
OUR CALL FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE CHARGE HAS BEEN ANSWERED BY ELLEN KORTINA /
THE SPRING MEMORIAL BEACH CLEAN-UP is ON!!!
It’s time for METRO Parrot Heads to do their part in making our adopted beach at the Jersey Shore a little cleaner. The NJDEP Adopt-A-Beach Program has advised that Saturday, April 12th, has been set for this year’s Spring Clean Up.
The Spring clean up has been set as our memorial clean up to honor the memory of Paul Sternthal and past Club President John Kwiatkowski, who was the driving force behind the Club adopting this beach. After the clean up we will gather at Ichabod’s next to the beach and toast their memory, as well as the memory of our recently departed Ken-Do Scotto. We will also take up a collection for a donation to the Wetlands Institute in their names.
Meet at: Sea Bright Beach
Municipal Beach Parking Lot
Saturday, April 12th at “Parrot Head Adjusted” 9:30 a.m.
Directions: Garden State Parkway to Exit 109. Follow Route 520 to the beach. It’s about 9 miles. Be careful with that tricky right turn after you cross the railroad tracks! After you go over the bridge, make a right onto Ocean Ave. (Rt. 36); parking lot is down the street on the left, behind the Fire/Police Dept.
We recognize the importance of the cleanup to Ellen Kortina (in memory of John Kwiatkowski).
SPECIAL NOTE:
Since Ellen has been kind enough to pitch in, and it will be quite a ride for her, PLEASE RSVP to: OR CALL 908-781-1530. IF ELLEN DOES NOT RECEIVE RESPONSES IN ADVANCE OF SATURDAY, SHE WILL BE FORCED TO CANCEL THE CLEANUP – so PLEASE RSVP! Thank you!
Floating Opera Time /
It’s time for another Jim Morris Benefit Concert in Connecticut, and once again we will be arranging for Mass METRO Transit via the Port Jeff Ferry.
If you live on Long Island and are planning on going to the Jim Morris & the Big Bamboo Band Benefit concert at Captain’s Cove, here are your travel options…
1) You can drive towards the City and run the Throgs Neck Bridge/New England Thruway gauntlet (how is it possible that there has been continuous construction on I-95 I Connecticut for the past 20+ years) or
2) You can drive to Port Jeff, hop on the ferry (actually, walking on the ferry might be preferable. Hopping may cause the boys from Homeland Security to take notice) relax, enjoy a nice cold beverage (and who doesn’t enjoy a nice cold beverage?) and let the Captain of the Port Jeff Ferry plow the seas and smooth the troubled waters.
Like there’s a choice here.
We are suggesting that Club members plan on taking the 12 Noon ferry. This will get us to Bridgeport at 1:15, where METRO North members will be waiting to whisk us off to Captain’s Cove in time for the show.
A SAME DAY Round Trip on the ferry costs around $19. Considering the upward spiraling price of gas, tolls and traffic related stress, that’s a bargain. If we can get a group of 25 or more, we may qualify for a group discount, but we have to notify the Ferry Co. in advance.
When the concert at Captain’s Cove is over, it’s a short cab ride (that costs about $6) back to the ferry terminal. Make sure that you call for a cab about an hour before your ferry departs. (Phone numbers for local cab companies are available at Captain’s Cove.) Share the cab with a few other METROs and save even more.
If you plan to take the ferry, please contact Joe Lombardi at This way we can figure out how many people need rides to Captain’s Cove.
Key West’s infamous figure, Capt. Tony Tarracino was admitted to a Miami hospital for a second angioplasty procedure in so many weeks according to the Key West Citizen. The former mayor and saloon owner of KW was reported in good spirits. Capt. Tony, a long time friend of Jimmy Buffett, was one of thefirst KW bar owners to hire old Bubba back in the early days.
Jake Shimabukuro
If you were able to stay awake for Jake Shimabukuro’s performance on Late Night with Conan O Brien (2-19-08), you must admit that it was worth the agony of getting up the next morning. Although it was Jake’s second appearance with Conan, it marked his first solo performance. Jake was promoting his new CD Gently Weeping which is available in local stores. Our very own Metros, Cindy and Don Haber actually caught Jake’s DC performance and said it was awesome. Cindy also passed along that Jake Shimabukuro won 2 awards in the 11th Annual Hawaii Music Awards which will be presented in May. I stand corrected, but I believe the story is that while Jimmy Buffettwas in Hawaii, he heard Jake play and hired him on the spot for the upcoming tour. Pretty impressive.

After Cartman is diagnosed with a terminal illness, Jimmy Buffett is asked to fill in for Elton John at an AIDS benefit. Take a look at the clip if you missed the episode.

Jimmy Buffett Lullaby CD
Sleepytime Tunes released a new Jimmy Buffett tribute CD. Jimmy Buffett: Lullaby Renditions is a compilation of 10 Buffett hits aimed to help the ‘Keets drift off to sleep. It is available in most stores for about $10. Although the songs are instrumental, do all of these songs really belong in a lullaby collection? Having raised 2 boys on Buffett, Scottand I turned to Margaritaville’sParakeet Album: Songs of Jimmy Buffetton those long nights. Not only are the songs more child-friendly, but with a release date of Oct. 23, 1995, Margaritaville had perfect timing as Brianarrived 3 days later.

METROs....
Save Your Souls!
By Joe Lombardi
In olden days, the deadly sins included pride, coveting, lust, anger, gluttony,
envy, sloth (someone has to explain how a slow moving tropical American
mammal that hangs upside down from trees can be sinful). /

Recently, the “Thou-salt-not list” was updated and guess what?

There’s new hope for all of us who have made regular withdrawals from the Bank of Bad Habits.

Now that Pope Benedict has come up with a new list of supplemental sins that while not deadly, are a bit more significant than your every day, run-of-the-mill venial sin. These will get you in deep Hot Water with the Man (or Woman) Upstairs.

Included on this new list is “pollution”, including LITTERING!

Yes METROs, salvation can be yours. And you won’t need to deal with any “Television preachers with bad hair and dimples”.

If littering is sinful, then picking up litter surely must be righteous. Can I get a Hallelujah!

Just come join us for the Spring Road Clean Up of our adopted road, Route 114 on April 26 (raindate: April 27)

As usual, we'll be meeting in front of the King Kullen in the Bridgehampton Commons Shopping Center at 10 AM for a pit stop. From there, we'll make our way over to Rte 114, for the Clean Up.

Following the Clean Up, everyone is invited back to Joe and Marie Lombardi's house for lunch. Please RSVP, so that Joe & Marie can plan lunch (we hope you like loaves and fishes), either by email: or by calling 631-324-9354. If you need directions, to Bridgehampton Commons, they will be provided when you RSVP.

Looking For A Place To Happen

Now that spring has sprung, we can look forward to being “Back in the Sunshine Again”. There is no betterplace to get “Laid Back and Key Wasted” than at Captain’s Cove Seaport, Bridgeport, CT on the first weekend in June. “What A Party” this is shaping up to be! It all starts with a “One Man Party” at the Acoustic Café on Friday, June 6th. If you didn’t get tickets for this show, you are out of luck. The solo show is sold out. Tickets for Saturday’s show are $25 ($30 at the door).Doors will open at 1PM on Saturday, so get there early so you can grab a “Bar Stool or Beach Chair” for this “Sandbar Serenade”. Once the music begins, you’re guaranteed to become “Visually Cool and Pleasantly Numb”. You may not become an “Instant Billionaire”, but you will definitely have some “Gatsby Dreams” once the silent auctions, raffles, and giveaways get underway. All you need to do is go to and order your tickets. Next, choose your “Tropical Shirt” and prepare for ‘A Slice of Island Life” with JM’s new CD “One Man Party”.

Jim Morris: One Man Party
Hi all,
As many of you know, when Jim Morris comes out with new material I like to
review it. Well here is my take on Jim's new CD.... "One Man Party"
1. Premature Intoxication - Let’s just say we have all lived this song at one time. It is a great upbeat song
with the whole band. A perfect pick for the first song of the CD. Only Jim can come up with a line like
"Kalik My Ass"
2. One Man Party - Is basically Jim talking about Jim. Great lead guitar and a rocking full band song that and,
in my opinion, will easily translate to Jim's acoustic show. I see this song as a follow up to Navigator Afternoon.
It just speaks of a huge show with hundreds of fans jammed into the bar to see the One Man Party!
3. I Wish You Were Here - The first slow down of the CD, a Great ballad with a haunting drum beat and the
first chance to hear James White's wonderful Pan play on this CD and the first real chance to hear Jim's magic
on the Acoustic Guitar. Jim and James really shine on this pretty ballad. I can feel the Islands on this song...
4. Suntan Lotion # 9 - A rocking song with an amusing tale twisted and torn from Jim's ever amazingly comical
mind... James White's pans again shine on this track. A really fun chorus to sing along with... Jim's first
subliminal reference to the Number Nine... Makes me want to jump ahead to track number nine.
5. I Don't Know Where I Am - Another full band medium rock tune about a typical day in Key West. Again,
it seems if you are a Jim Morris fan you probably have been the main character in this song at least once in
your life. James is strong on Pans again and some great harmonies on this track.
6. We Were Kinda Crazy Then - The first of two covers and the second ballad on the album. With some great harmonies and timely Pedal Steel this song is perfectly placed and played really well, oh, and it sounds great too..
7. Wanted For Love - The second cover on the album. In my opinion Jim is one of the best people at picking
covers for himself. He hit the nail on the head again with the two covers on this album.
8. Vanish In The Sun - A medium tempo song with the full band telling a great Jim Morris story. The Pedal
Steel is placed perfectly again giving this that slight county feel. One you'll be reading the lyrics wondering
where Jim comes up with all of these ideas. Maybe a jail cell? or late night TV?
9. When I'm Sailing - Most of you know my theory on Jim's albums, that in all of his studio CD's he places his
best track in the number nine spot. It may not be the most rocking song or the one he plays out at every show,
but his absolute best lyrically written song on the CD. He has absolutely done it again. A ballad that only Jim
can write. Jim's acoustic Guitar shines and again, just the perfect amount of Pedal Steel. Sit back and listen to
this one. Some day Jim needs to do a track nine acoustic set just for his Track Nine believers.
10.Running Out Of Lies - Back to the rockin Jim Morris full band, full of fun sing-a-long song. Just classic
Jim Morris... I can see the rubber chickens wearing panties on their heads throwing $20.00 bills on the stage now...
  1. Watching The Storm Roll In - The last track on this CD is the fourth ballad, great lyrically and you may
just come away from this song thinking Jim
actually does not have fun 24/7 and that even know he is a One Man Party, he
can write a sad song with the best of them...
All in all, another great showing by the Morris Man... The Pedal Steel and
James White's Steel Pan playing just takes this album to another level. Murphy
does a great job on Keys and harmonies too. Jim Marks is a drum God and
showed it again on this CD. There will be some real party tunes off this CD but
the real brilliance is all in the lyrics of some of the slower songs.
Enjoy!!!!
