Mentor Scout Terms of Use

CovanceMentoring has incorporated Mentor Scout as a valuable tool for employees to develop mentoring partnerships. Mentor Scout is designed to allow personal input of non-sensitive information to facilitate matching of mentors and mentees. Mentor Scout also enables mentoring partners to utilize tools that assist with the development and ongoing maintenance of their mentoring partnership. Employees must use this system to participate in Covance Mentoring and will apply and abide by all current internet use policies as defined by Covance Inc.

To curtail any potential for inappropriate use of Mentor Scout, the following policy and agreement are required for participation.

Covance requires participants to maintain a courteous, polite dialogue in Mentor Scout. This system is provided to encourage the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and suggestions among employees. As such, employees should be respectful and helpful in encouraging each others’ ideas, while offering only constructive criticism and suggestions.

The amount of time an employee spends during the work day on Mentor Scout should be limited to an appropriate length and only when it does not interfere with work-related activities.

Covance prohibits the following actions while using Mentor Scout:

  • Posting false or misleading declarations of work or personal achievements
  • Disclosure of confidential and/or proprietary information
  • Solicitation of any outside business
  • Distributing employee contact information to any outside business
  • Any form of harassment
  • Profanity
  • Complaining about the company or any relevant policies, procedures, or decisions
  • Sharing your profile ID or allowing access to any unauthorized person

Access to Mentor Scout is prohibited should you leave employment of Covance, regardless of whether your access has been deleted.

Should violations of the Terms of Use be discovered, appropriate action will be taken. Depending on the severity of the violation, Covance may institute an appropriate response.

In addition to appropriate use of Mentor Scout, employees are also required to agree to the following criteria for participation in Covance Mentoring.

Participation Requirements for Mentees:
  • Minimum of one-year employment with Covance
  • Current full-time employment status
  • Minimum overall 2009PMD rating of ME (Meets Expectations)
  • Demonstrated skill in time management and taking initiative
  • Self-identified job and/or career interests
  • Ability to articulate skills strength, areas for development, and desired outcomes from a mentoring relationship
/ Participation Requirements for Mentors:
  • Minimum of two years employment with Covance
  • Current full-time employment status
  • Strong performance in 2009 with demonstrated leadership skill
  • Demonstrated skill at “getting it done”
  • Demonstrated interest, skill, and/or experience in coaching roles
  • Willingness and ability to provide guidance on specific areas of expertise, skill mastery, and academic/professional experiences

Participation Requirements for both Mentors and Mentees:
  • Attend a program orientation session (date/location options to be announced). The orientation is waived for previous program participants.
  • Utilize and complete the “Mentoring Agreement“ template
  • Mentee to schedule all meetings with mentor
  • Meet a minimum of one-hour monthly with mentoring partner for one year (in-person meetings expected except in situations where mentor and mentee work from different geographic locations
  • Utilize program-recommended resources (e.g., reference material and tools for mentoring)
  • Complete program evaluations
