Purpose and Mission

Children’s Ministry at FUMCC shepherds children to experience a life long journey with Christ. The Music Teacher of MCC provides a warm, welcoming, nurturing, loving, Christ-centered, safe environment in which children and families can grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. The Music Teacher of MCC reports to the Director of Methodist Children’s Center.

Job Summary:

As the Music Teacher of MCC this individual is responsible for leading the class via preparation and execution of all programs in the Music classroom.

·  Part Time Position, days and times vary per class-earliest class begins at 9:30am and latest class ends at 1:00pm. The Director will advise your specific schedule upon date of hire.

Expectations:

A Music Teacher of MCC directs and oversees daily operations of their classroom, possesses a warm and friendly personality, is organized and energetic. The Music Teacher will be responsible for teaching children 3-5 years old; songs, movement and basic music theory. Introduce children to various forms of music throughout the year. The Music Teacher will coordinate and execute the Christmas and Spring Music Program for the 3 year olds, 4 year olds and TK classes under the supervision of the preschool director. The Music teacher must be able to create lesson plans based on MCC guidelines and stay on track with classroom budget planning by staying within a set budget each year. Attend in-house classes, Open Houses, Orientation, monthly staff meetings as designated by the Director. Must have a general understanding of Bible stories and believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and support the Christian teachings of the Methodist Children’s Center. The teacher should share the love of Christ through their daily teaching and care for the children.

Essential Functions:

·  Passion for working in early childhood development and music.

·  Enthusiasm for recognizing and sharing with others the ways children learn through music.

·  Commitment to fostering learning in a loving, Christian environment.

·  Create daily lesson plans and work independently and collectively with children in the music class.

·  Keep classroom up to date with learning materials, seasonal décor and maintain a clean, safe environment for both students and teachers.

·  Prepare for daily activities; set-up, organize supplies, make sure all required items are available.

·  Maintain classroom budget.

·  Maintain a professional attitude with staff and families.

·  Treat all children and families with respect, kindness and Christian love.

·  Communicate effectively and precisely with director and families.

·  Have a general knowledge of computers and copiers.

Background:

·  2- 3 years’ experience working with children

·  A degree in early childhood development and/or music is preferred but not required

·  Complete a first aid and CPR class every 2 years

·  Must submit and pass a criminal background check to include finger printing and TB test prior to being offered the job and keep these requirements up to date while continuing the job.
