MENGEL’S ‘MINDERS: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

www.ojrhsband.com

1.  GREAT JOB THIS FALL: Congratulations to all marching band members for a terrific 2011 fall season. The show kept getting better and better each week and culminated with a fantastic performance at the Hershey championships last weekend. We came in 1st place in our division at several cavalcades this year and achieved our goal of qualifying for the Open Division at championships two years in a row! There are lots of people to recognize and thank for all of their hard work supporting us throughout the season and we’ll do that at the upcoming band banquet.

2.  THANKSGIVING DAY GAME: Our last function of the season is the annual Thanksgiving Day football game. This year the game is away at Pottstown. This is a BIG game and is, arguably, the one performance of the year where the MOST people at one time will see you so we need to be at our best. Several band members travel each year with their families and need to miss the game, so we need to see if we’ll have enough people in attendance to do a performance that day. Reporting time is 8:00am and we should return around 12:45. Dress warmly!

3.  BAND BANQUET: Our annual marching band banquet will be held on Thursday, December 1st, 2011 in the high school cafeteria and auditorium at 6:00pm. All marching band families are invited and encouraged to attend. The banquet is a FUN night with great food, so I hope to see all of you there! Attached here is a letter from your band president, Beau Dallas, with more information on the banquet, including what everyone is asked to bring that night.

4.  NEXT DISNEY TRIP PAYMENT: The next payment (payment #2) for the band’s spring trip to Orlando, Florida is due on or before December 1, 2011. The amount of the payment is $375.00 and checks are made payable to: “OJR MPO Band Chapter”. A form is attached here if you would like to use any available funds from your student fundraising accounts.

5.  HOLIDAY CONCERT: Our annual OJR Holiday Concert is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 22nd at 7pm in the high school auditorium and will feature the concert band, jazz band, chorus, 7-Ups, and orchestra. Hope to see you there. (Reminder – Dress: Guys -Dark Slacks, White Dress Shirt, Tie / Gals: Dark Dress Outfit, Etc.)

6.  DISTRICT BAND AUDITIONS: District band auditions will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10th at Bayard Rustin High School (West Chester School District) for anyone interested. We will take a bus and leave OJR around 7am that day and return sometime between 1pm and 3pm. District band includes the best student musicians from all schools in Chester, Philadelphia, and Delaware counties and is an AWESOME opportunity and experience. Everyone is encouraged to audition.

7.  PRIVATE LESSONS: Now that marching band is over it is a great time to think about starting private lessons on your instrument. Private lessons absolutely make the difference when it comes to enhancing your musical skill level, qualifying for solos and other opportunities, etc. There are many good teachers in our area to take advantage of. Attached here is a current list of private lesson teachers in our area. Feel free to contact any of them to talk about available options.

The Band Banquet!

To the Pride of OJR,

CONGRATULATIONS! After dedicating months of time and contributing mountains of hard work, every single member of the Owen J. Roberts HS Marching Band has the right to sit back and finally RELAX! However, before we take a break from marching band, we would like to recognize everyone’s hard work put in this season at the annual band banquet. Everyone deserves to be appreciated, to relax, and to have some fun!

The banquet will be held on December 1st at 6:00 pm. First, dinner will be provided for all in the cafeteria. After eating, the entertainment will shift to the auditorium to watch the Championship video. Following this, our amazing staff and volunteers, as well as band members ourselves, will be given recognition for all of the hard work contributed this season. The night will end with the tradition of senior gifts (all gifts must be approved by Mr. Mengel).

In order to ensure that there is enough food provided, each member is responsible for contributing to the dinner (specific requirements for each section will be provided within an attachment). Also, if you are unable to attend, please inform Mr. Mengel or myself before the date of the banquet.

Once again, congratulations on a fantastic season. With the hard work contributed by our staff, volunteers, and our very own marching members, we have proven to ourselves this season how we truly are The Pride of OJR.

Sincerely,

Beau Dallas

Band President
