The Men’s Rugby Club is one of 19 other sports clubs which provides students with the opportunity to represent the university in the competitive sports programme in theBUCS League.

The post holder for this position will be required to coach the Men’s 1st Team at Walsall RFC on Mondays 7-9pm and also be available for home and away fixtures.

Position / Men’s Rugby Head Coach
Department / Athletic Union (Students’ Union)
Responsible To / Student Sport Officer
Hourly Rate / Minimum £20 per hour (Level 2)
Minimum £25 per hour (Level 3)
Minimum £30 per hour (Level 4)
Hours / Mondays 7-9pm

Purpose of Position

To lead the planning, coordination and delivery ofan annual coaching programmefor the University Men’s Rugby Club who competes in the BUCS League.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.0Coaching

  • To develop and execute effective team practices and individual skill development sessions in a safe and friendly environment
  • To utilise the most effective technical and tactical methods in developing individual team members and the team as a whole
  • To act professionally, displaying good coaching conduct at all times promoting an enjoyable and inclusive atmosphere
  • To ensure good practice is applied throughout all coaching sessions
  • To provide motivation and encouragement to all team members and show commitment to the development of players and the team
  • To organise trials sessions for team selection of the BUCS squad
  • To act as a positive and professional role model at all times
  • To actively demonstrate a commitment to the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union Equal Opportunities Policy by promoting an open door policy on club trials
  • To abide by the Health and Safety guidelines of the facility in which you instruct and to notify the Student Sports Officer of any injuries sustained by students during sessions
  • To mentor an Assistant Coach if required

2.0Club Development

  • To regularly liaise with the Men’s Captain to discuss any issues that may arise
  • To liaise with the Men’s Club Committee and Student Sports Officer regarding the development of sessions, students, coaching programmes and the Club
  • To encourage all club members to purchase a Student Sports Card

3.0Professional Development

  • To attend Athletic Union Coaches Forums during the year
  • To keep up to date with coaching/instruction techniques and theories and attend any coach development course deemed necessary by the Student Sports Officer
  • To attend and contribute to a Coach/Instructor Development Review at the end of each semester
