Membership Director & Sponsorship/Events Coordinator

The Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce’s mission: We exist to help our members prosper and to enhance the quality of life in the Chambersburg area. The Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce - is the umbrella organization for a network of affiliates that include two industrial development corporations, which are 501(c)6 organizations, as well as a downtown development corporation and a foundation, both of which are 501(c)3’s. The Chamber has more than 850 members, and we proudly serve the Chambersburg and surrounding area.
The Chamber is currently seeking a Membership Director & Sponsorship/Events Coordinator to join our staff. This position is at the very heart of our organization as our members are what keeps our Chamber thriving. This position is responsible for recruiting new members, as well as retention of existing members. This position reports directly to the Chamber President.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee membership recruitment and retention initiatives to achieve budgeted goals
- Coordinate the following: Chamber mixers, new member receptions/orientations, membership drives, small business week events, buy local initiatives, as well as training and educational seminars
- Travel Club planning, coordination, meetings with agents and travelers
- Assist Chamber members in taking full advantage of their membership opportunities to preserve retention
- Manage, oversee and recruit new committee members as necessary for: Ambassador, Membership and Golf Committees, as well as CCRG (Chamber Connections Referral Group)
- Assist with membership website content
- Develops and promotes member services, program and benefits
- Secure sponsorships and donations for events
- Develops and maintains a business prospect list, initiates ten new member contacts per week and ten membership retention visits per week
- Generates monthly membership reports for the monthly Chamber board meeting
- Assists in the creation of the monthly Chamber Outlook newsletter by assisting in the coordination of the “Members in the News” section, “Member spotlight” articles and promoting ad sales
- Tracking, assisting and ensuring members utilize ads – radio, public opinion etc.
- Monthly radio program
- Develops marketing strategies for Chamber members as well as assisting them with the planning and promoting of special events, such as open houses, grand openings etc.
- Assists with facilitating and promoting of Chamber and affiliate events
- Assists the Financial Department with yearly membership dues collection
- Orders membership plaques for new members and ensures delivery through ambassadors
- Serves as support to Chamber staff as needed
Knowledge, Experience and Education:
Degree or background in marketing, business, communications or related field.
Minimum of five years’ experience in sales and/or marketing, preferably in a membership driven business
In-depth knowledge of sales techniques and customer service oriented principles
Ability to analyze and interpret market research
Strong people skills to cultivate relationships with members, prospective members, volunteers, staff and our community
Strong organizational and planning skills
Ability to create written, oral and visual presentation material
Ability to organize, plan, implement and prioritize work load involving multiple projects – many of which will overlap in time frames
Ability to work efficiently, both independently and part of a team
Ability and confidence to approach prospects, many of which may be cold calls
Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
Working hours will vary and frequently requires early starts, evening or weekend hours
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
Must have and maintain a dependable vehicle with proof of license and insurance
Compensation includes base salary and commission dependent on performance.Full benefits include health or medical allowance, life insurance, short term disability and 401k Retirement Plan (with a company match). Plus, PTO, Sick and paid Holidays. This position comes with a car allowance and cell phone or partial reimbursement for your current cell phone.
