Member Appointed to Shetland NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport today announced the appointment of Andy Glen as a member of Shetland NHS Board.

MEMBER

Andy Glen – Andy Glen is currently working as the Vice Principal for Shetland College UHI and NAFC Marine Centre UHI and has many years’ experience in both senior management and also in education and training. He was previously the Organisational Development and Training Manager for NHS Shetland for some ten years and therefore has a practical understanding of both the workings of NHS Shetland and also the challenges the Board faces. Having previously worked as a Psychologist in the Scottish Prison Service he is passionate about all elements of the NHS, and he brings a strong patient voice to the board having being involved previously in various patients groups and also having worked with people in distress.

APPOINTMENT

This appointment will be for 4 years and will run from the 1st December 2016 to
30th November 2020.

This appointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

REMUNERATION

This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £7,479 per annum for a time commitment of 1 day per week.

OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

Mr Glen does not hold any other Ministerial Public Appointments.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mr Glen has not undertaken any political activity in the last 5 years.

BACKGROUND

NHS Shetland is responsible for meeting the health needs and improving the health of around 23,000 people living in the Shetland Islands. NHS Shetland employs approximately 620 staff and provides a comprehensive range of acute, mental health, primary and community services.
